Between Friday and Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed's royal blue silks were carried to victory in both Newmarket Classics, the G1 1000 Guineas and G1 2000 Guineas, as well as the G1 Kentucky Oaks and the G1 Kentucky Derby, completing an unprecedented sweep of transatlantic Classics

NEWMARKET, Inglaterra (Special for Turf Diario).- What happened this past weekend was the kind of perfection no one dares to dream—but destiny has a flair for rewriting limits, and Godolphin delivered a feat for the ages, one that had never been achieved before and may never be repeated.

In a sport where speed alone is never enough, the stars aligned, and the royal blue silks of Sheikh Mohammed dazzled across two continents, capturing four Classics in just three days. It began on Friday at Churchill Downs with Good Cheer(Medaglia d’Oro) powering home in the G1 Kentucky Oaks, continued Saturday with Ruling Court (Justify) dominating the G1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and Sovereignty (Into Mischief) triumphing in the G1 Kentucky Derby, and culminated on Sunday with the brilliant Desert Flower (Night of Thunder) landing the G1 1000 Guineas in style.

Faced with the pressure of closing out the sweep, Desert Flower delivered with authority, confirming her favoritism and establishing herself as the top 3-year-old filly in Britain.

Drawn into a speed duel from the outset, the chestnut filly was briefly headed at the three-furlong marker by Flight(Siyouni), but summoned her class in the final stages to reassert control and draw clear for a one-length victory. Simmering (Too Darn Hot) closed late for third, another length behind. Disappointing in sixth was Lake Victoria(Frankel), last year’s G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf heroine.

Just as with Ruling Court, the potent team of William Buick and Charlie Appleby combined once more to great effect. For Godolphin, this marked a fifth win in the 1000 Guineas, following previous triumphs with Cape Verdi (Caerleon, 1998), Kazzia (Zinaad, 2002), Blue Bunting (Dynaformer, 2011), and Mawj (Exceed and Excel, 2023).

“She’s an unbelievable filly and to be part of such an achievement means the world,” said a jubilant Buick. “I can’t put into words the level of class she has. We knew we might have to make our own pace, and she showed remarkable versatility. She’s all class.”

Looking ahead, Buick hinted that Desert Flower may be well suited for longer trips. “I don’t see why she couldn’t get further—she relaxes beautifully. This time we made the running and she was completely comfortable, but she’s just as happy tracking a pacemaker. There’s nothing suggesting she can’t stay, though of course those are discussions for the whole team. She’s by far the best filly I’ve ridden, and she deserves every bit of praise today.”

As the dust settled, Godolphin’s four-win masterstroke reverberated across the racing world, cementing their status as a global powerhouse with few, if any, peaks left to conquer.
