Saturday’s card at the Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo included the first rounds over 1,400 meters on the dirt for juveniles, with common denominators in each of the competitions that were decided, one for colts and the other for fillies.

Desert Voice prevailed in the Premio Tibaldo and projected his name toward the Gran Premio Montevideo (G1), while Personal Filly took the Premio Fantasista and secured a ticket toward the Gran Premio Jorge de Atucha (G1).

Both are offspring of Dabster (Curlin), who now resides at Haras Firmamento—where his first crop will be born this season—and are under the orders of trainer Juan Saldivia, who would later add one more success with Soñadora Ride(Seize), who broke her maiden at 3 years old.

A homebred of Al Adiyaat, the silks of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Desert Voice was convincing in the finish against the only 4 rivals that came out to face him, responding in the best way to his favoritism of $ 1.10. With Juan Carlos Noriega in the reins,

The bay did not have a good time during a good part of the trip, stretched out and showing issues typical of a debut. In the stretch, El Pecadito (Cima de Triomphe) established himself in front and, for a moment, gave the impression that he would not lose.

However, in the final 200 meters, Desert Voice gained momentum, dominated, and ended up closing with certain ease, defeating that rival by 2 lengths and leaving the sensation that his performance will improve as the distances stretch out.

The colt clocked a time of 1m26s33/100, almost 1 second slower compared to the 1m25s36/100 that Personal Filly took to open her record with a victory. Under the guidance of William Pereyra, the homebred of the South African silks Wilgerbosdrift came from off the pace while Live Your Life (Dabster) set the lead.

She went looking for her in the straight and both pulled away from the rest, with Personal Filly dominating in the final 100 meters to beat her adversary by 1 length, while 16 lengths further back Foun Garota (Gouverneur Morris) was third.

With very few specimens on the track, the juveniles continue to advance in the selective process, and this Saturday gave the impression that Desert Voice, Personal Filly, and Live Your Life have reason to be hopeful and to be protagonists in the months to come.
