Deterministic to race through year's end before joining Lane’s End stallion roster

The magnificent son of Liam’s Map—winner of four G1 events and owner of a impressive six-race winning streak—will join the Kentucky nursery upon retirement, standing alongside his own sire

VERSAILLES, Kentucky—While major chapters remain to be written on the racetrack, the next step of Deterministic's career has officially been set. Lane’s End Farm announced that the outstanding son of Liam’s Mapwill retire to stud at the conclusion of his racing campaign, joining one of the most prestigious stallion rosters in the United States where he will stand alongside his own sire.

At age 5, Deterministic is arguably enjoying the finest form of his career. Owned by St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, Steven Duncker, and Vicarage Stable, he carries a six-race winning streak dating back to May 2025—all under jockey Kendrick Carmouche—and has accumulated $3,047,265 in earnings.

His current dominance was on full display last Saturday at Saratoga, where he captured the Fourstardave Stakes (G1) for the second consecutive year. Overcoming a rain-drenched turf course, he drew off to defeat Mi Bago (Vekoma) by 1 1/2 lengths over a mile, stopping the clock in 1:35.07.

In doing so, Deterministic achieved a rare historical feat, becoming the first horse to win both the Manhattan Stakes(G1) and the Fourstardave in back-to-back seasons.

"The journey with Deterministic has been nothing short of extraordinary, and sharing it with the Clement family has meant the world to us," noted Vinnie Viola of St. Elias Stable.

The storyline carries deep personal sentiment for connections. Deterministic is a son of Liam’s Map, who carried the St. Elias colors to victories in the Woodward Stakes (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) in 2015 before developing into a premier sire.

"To campaign a son of one of our stud's greatest stars in Liam’s Map—who was a phenomenal racehorse and is now an elite sire—makes it feel completely fitting that Deterministic will reunite with him at Lane’s End," added Viola.

Surface versatility stands as one of the defining traits Deterministic will offer in his second career.

Initially trained by the late Christophe Clement and later by his son Miguel Clement, he won on debut on the dirt at 2 at Saratoga. Following a layoff, he returned at 3 to take the Gotham Stakes (G3) over a mile on the main track at Aqueduct.

After finishing eighth in the Wood Memorial (G2) and fifth in the Peter Pan (G3), connections made a career-defining move: shifting him to the turf.

The results were immediate. He captured both the Virginia Derby (G3) at Colonial Downs and the Hill Prince Stakes(G3) at Aqueduct, signaling the elite turf runner he would become.

In 2025, he firmly established himself at the top level by taking the Fort Marcy Stakes (G2) by 4 1/2 lengths before stringing together victories in the Manhattan (G1) and Fourstardave (G1). This season, he replicated that exact sequence: Fort Marcy, Manhattan, and Fourstardave. Six starts, six victories.

"Whenever a son of Liam’s Map hits G1 level, it gets our attention—especially one with the sheer speed to win two G1 miles on the turf," explained Bill Farish of Lane’s End.

For Farish, the stallion prospect represents the complete package: "He won on debut at 2, became a graded stakes winner on dirt, and went on to become a multiple G1 winner on turf, including two runnings of the Fourstardave—one of the premier turf mile events in the country. He fits precisely into the versatile stallion roster we aim to build at Lane’s End."

Bred in Kentucky by Hinkle Farms, Deterministic was a $625,000 purchase by Michael Wallace, bloodstock agent for St. Elias Stable, at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He is out of the winning Speightstown mare Giulio’s Jewel.

While Lane’s End awaits his arrival for the upcoming breeding season, Deterministic still has business to finish on the track.

He will head toward his remaining targets at the absolute peak of his form—holding a six-race winning streak and established as one of the premier turf horses in North America—before joining Liam’s Map in the stallion barn to begin his next chapter.
