Despite a precarious start where she nearly went to her knees as the gates flew, the daughter of Peten Itza proved to be in a class of her own Sunday afternoon

LA PLATA.- Doña Chila (Peten Itza) has officially recaptured the elite form she displayed between late 2024 and the early stages of the current season. Following a brief freshening, the Pobre Vasco colorbearer returned to the winner’s circle a month ago in Palermo’s Handicap Solyluz and doubled down Sunday with a professional score in the Especial Haras Carampangue (1000m).
Dispatched as a heavy favorite while shouldering a testing 128-pound topweight, the Marcos A. Giammatolo trainee relied on her signature tactical weapon: blazing early speed and a stubborn refusal to yield in the lane.
The victory was not without its drama, however, as she stumbled at the break. Despite the awkward start, she recovered instantly under the guidance of leading rider Kevin Banegas to duel for the lead. Pressed through sharp internal fractions of :23.32 and :46.24 by Jaque Mate Sar (Sardinero), Doña Chila showed no signs of late-race fatigue despite the taxing pace and heavy impost.
Turning for home, she hugged the rail and kicked clear, crossing the wire two lengths ahead of Empress Life (Legion de Honor). Mariana Dancer (Grand Reward) finished a further two lengths back in third. The final time for the five furlongs was a sharp :59.28 over the fast main track.
