It may carry a G3 label, but on paper, Sunday’s Clásico Southern Halo at Hipódromo de San Isidro shapes up like a true top-level showdown. The tribute to the legendary sire from Haras La Quebrada headlines an entertaining card, capping off a week that promises to be memorable.

Among the standouts, Colifato Novo (Lenovo) makes his seasonal debut as the reigning Champion 2-Year-Old Male of 2024. Dual G1 winner Earth God (Cosmic Trigger) returns to action, while Tooru (Lizard Island) aims for a third consecutive stakes score. Meanwhile, Concord (Remote) will try to confirm his status after bursting onto the scene with a commanding win in the G2 Clásico América. What more could you ask for?

One of the key questions surrounding the Southern Halo lies in the expected tempo. With confirmed speedsters such as Colifato NovoGarufa Mask (Mask), and Midnight Runner (Forge), the early fractions are likely to be swift—setting up a scenario that could favor the closers.

That could play into the hands of horses like Earth GodConcordTooru, or the multiple graded stakes winner Don Latido (John F Kennedy), all of whom figure to be tracking just off the pace.

Hit Rouge (Hit It a Bomb), a stakes winner at 1200 meters, stretches out and could have a say in the outcome, while Aroma Rim (Remote) continues to rise rapidly through the ranks and carries strong backing from Firmamento.

A stakes-quality colt last season, Mr. Versace (Fortify) recently returned to winning form in a conditions race and is now ready for a step back into deeper waters. What a Man (Mastercraftsman), runner-up to Concord last time, should not be overlooked either.

Rounding out the field is the classy Río Felipín (Grand Reward), who adds another layer of intrigue to a race that promises fireworks from start to finish.
