The ability to race almost immediately with a horse is always an attractive hook for owners. While dreaming of finding the champion of the year through the purchase of a yearling remains one of the primary aspirations for owners, the possibility of a quick return—and a quick photo, of course—offered by buying a horse in training is also a strong magnet.
This was clear at the conclusion of the Haras Firmamento Training Sale, held this Monday in a virtual format and organized by Antonio Bullrich SA, where Ecográfico Rim secured the top price.
A 4-year-old son of Remote and Ecográfica, he was acquired by Diego Arozamena, acting as an agent, after a final bid of US$ 12,200 ($ 17,500,000). The bay is a winner of two races at Palermo and La Plata, and just returned after a six-month absence to finish third, only 3/4 of a body behind Vulcano (Daniel Boone) in a conditional race on the San Isidrodirt.
The second-highest price was for Fantasy Rim (Remote and Fantastic Rye by Catcher In the Rye), another 4-year-old male with two wins to his credit, both this season at San Isidro. This puts him one step away from obtaining the Trébol, which would grant a 50 percent bonus on the stipulated prize money. If he achieves a fourth victory by the end of the year at that venue, he will reach the full Trébol, doubling the reward.
In his case, Antonio Bullrich dropped the hammer at US$ 11,700 (just over 16,731,000 pesos), with Juan Carlos Digliodo as the buyer, acting as an agent.
The podium of top prices was completed by Hit Mad (Hit It a Bomb and the G1 winner Locasa Nistel by Van Nistelrooy), a maternal brother to G2 winner Beatle Francés (Super Saver). At 2 years old, he was auctioned broken and undergoing pre-training. Ignacio Juárez ultimately secured him for US$ 9,900 (14,157,000 pesos) after a lengthy bidding battle.
Another to reach an interesting figure was the two-time group winner Adorado Rim (Remote and the G1 winner Adora Nistel by Van Nistelrooy), also 4 years old, who was acquired for US$ 6,100 ($ 8,723,000) by Juan de Diego, acting as an agent.
Additionally, the bay Happy Etico (Hi Happy and Zetica by Tiznow) reached US$ 6,000. A winner at San Isidro for Stud de Galera, he is another 4-year-old runner.
