The Triple Alliance champion finished fourth, 1¾ lengths behind Aussie Girl; the gray filly, making her U.S. debut, broke sharply but ran herself out of contention, tiring to finish last

SOUTH OZONE PARK, New York (Special for Turf Diario)— Argentine fillies once again made their presence felt in the U.S. This Sunday at Belmont at the Big A, the Noble Damsel Stakes (L) was contested over one mile on the inner turf. While the Irish-bred Aussie Girl claimed victory, the two Argentine runners left very different impressions: Edict (Il Campione) ran competitively to finish fourth, just 1¾ lengths behind, while Coni Fizz (Marconi), in her U.S. debut, got too keen on the lead and faded to finish last.
The winner, a daughter of Starspangledbanner out of Ravissante (Galileo), owned by Woodford Thoroughbreds and trained by Will Walden, notched her first stakes triumph in the United States after a solid campaign in Ireland. With Dylan Davis aboard, the chestnut traveled in stalking position for much of the race and held off favorite Tax Implications (Mehmas) in the final strides, winning by half a neck in a time of 1:36.73 over firm turf.
Behind them, South African Feather Boa (Flower Alley) completed the trifecta 1¼ lengths back, with Edict rounding out the top four, confirming her smooth adaptation to the local course. The David Donk-trained filly ran a sustained late rally but, boxed in at times, could not reach further, reinforcing her standing as a high-level competitor while still awaiting her first stakes win on U.S. soil.
Coni Fizz, however, did not share the same fortune. Under the guidance of fellow Argentine Jorge Ruiz, the bay filly broke sharply, took the lead decisively, and ran wide into the first turn, carrying her momentum “angrily” throughout the race. That lack of control proved costly, as she gradually weakened down the stretch to finish last.
Despite the result, her effort suggested that she possesses talent but will need to acclimate and channel her energy better to recapture the form that made her stand out at San Isidro and Palermo, where she built a strong G1 résumé.
Walden highlighted Davis’s ride and Aussie Girl’s return to top form after a long layoff, leaving open the possibility of targeting the Matriarch Stakes (G1) on November 30 at Del Mar.
Edict continues to rack up creditable performances, confirming the strength of Argentine breeding on the international stage, while Coni Fizz learned her first lesson in the demanding U.S. racing environment.
