The son of Il Campione emerges as the main candidate in the Clásico Uruguay (2000 m), the centerpiece of Saturday's card at La Plata Racecourse

LA PLATA.— Stayers will take center stage in the main event this Saturday at the local racecourse, with the Clásico Uruguay trophy up for grabs. Scheduled over 2,000 meters for horses 3 years old and up, under weight-for-age conditions, it is considered the start of the long road leading to the Gran Premio Dardo Rocha (G1)—the most important race here and one of the most prestigious dirt events for the division nationwide.
Eleven runners have been confirmed, with El Bolivariano (Il Campione) seeking to validate the evolution he has shown lately. He arrives coming off a victory in the Especial Hipódromo de Dolores over a mile, defeating Che Vivi (Manipulator). However, prior to that, over the same distance he faces today, he finished second by just half a neck to a demanding rival in Billion (Galicado).
The path for the favorite will be far from a "bed of roses" as his challengers include the veteran El Darwin (Il Campione). At 7 years old, he recently proved his longevity by falling just 1 1/2 lengths behind Sono Perfetto (Tetaze)in the Clásico Clausura (G2).
Following that same form line are Hit Colchonero (Hit It a Bomb) and Rumor de Fuego (Daddy Long Legs), who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, that afternoon. The latter, who rounded out the trifecta in this same race 12 months ago, is expected to take a step forward.
Boyero Spring (Greenspring) is another horse to respect due to his extensive experience, with the Clásico AP Candy as his top achievement, while Señor Dalton (Señor Candy) arrives from the allowance ranks boosted by a recent victory.
