Back Story and Mendoza's Code Breaker are top contenders in the prestigious race, with the double G1 winner returning for the Clásico Estrellas Puntanas over 1000 meters

LA PUNTA, San Luis (Special for Turf Diario). – A festive Sunday will unfold at the racetrack in this city, with a new edition of the Gran Premio Vicente Dupuy (G3), the only graded race of the season in the interior of Argentina.
Covering 2400 meters on dirt, open to horses aged 3 and older, and with a prize of 15,000,000 pesos for the winner, the race will headline a remarkable day that will also feature the Clásico Estrellas Puntanas (1000 m, sand, 5,000,000 pesos to the winner) and Clásico Estrellas Precoces (800 m, sand, 5,000,000 pesos to the winner), with the double G1 winner Colifato Novo (Lenovo) leading the field in the first race and serving as one of the day’s major attractions.
A total of 14 horses will line up for the Dupuy, several of them with strong chances of claiming the cup in what promises to be a highly competitive race where local adaptation and conditions will be key factors.
Back Story (Incurable Optimist) comes into the race with excellent prospects, after a debut in La Punta where he won the Gran Premio Jorge Laffue (L) over 1800 meters in mid-January. Previously, he won the Bartolomé J. Ronco and Ciudad de Azul Stakes – in which he had also prevailed in 2023 in Azul. That afternoon, he defeated J be Storm (J be K) by 3/4 of a length, a horse he will face again here.
The Mendoza-based Code Breaker (True Cause) just won the Clásico Vendimia in his home province and now crosses into San Luis to prove himself as the best in the region. From San Juan, Oscar Rébora and Stud La Nona, the most successful in Dupuy history, have 3 strong contenders: El Mau (Holy Boss), Ettore (Il Campione), and Te Super Adora(Super Saver).
For Colifato Novo, the task will be challenging in the Estrellas Puntanas, as he returns to racing, drops down to 1000 meters, and will start from gate 1. However, with his immense talent, he will try to outlast his rivals, including Dark Sound (Long Island Sound) and El Lejano (Il Campione).
Finally, in the Clásico Estrellas Precoces, reserved for horses nominated in the Fundación Equina Argentina series, key contenders include Empress Girl (Legión de Honor), Dices Que Sí (Touareg), Pura Mística (Il Mercato), and La Alfonso (Grand Reward).
