After springing a surprise in the Carlos Gardel, the Il Campione colt returned to score easily in the Clásico Irineo Leguisamo (L)

This time, there was no surprise. Three weeks after his unexpected success in the Clásico Carlos Gardel (L), El Emporio returned to the Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo and once again impressed—this time with a commanding victory in Monday’s Clásico Irineo Leguisamo (L), stretching out to 2000 meters for the first time in his career.
The son of Il Campione proved clearly superior once more, handling a seasoned group of rivals with ease and reaffirming his status among the leading middle-distance performers on the Palermo turf.
For the Stud Juan Martín representative, the race held few complications. Juan Cruz Villagra settled him comfortably in midpack while Tryman (Safety Check) set the pace, closely followed by the experienced Super Inter (Super Saver). The race began to take shape in the straight, where Super Inter moved up quickly to challenge the leader and briefly took command—until El Emporio appeared on the outside, unleashing a powerful, effortless surge to draw alongside and then away within a matter of strides.
Free of opposition in the final furlong, El Emporio crossed the line three lengths clear of Super Inter, who held off Chelato (Cosmic Trigger) by one length for second. The final time of 2:03.64 was solid over the 2000 meters, further underlining the winner’s maturity and form.
Bred by Haras El Paraíso and trained by Humberto Benesperi, El Emporio is out of Diandra Parodi (Don Valiente), herself a sister to stakes performers Sausales (Sebi Halo) and Absolute Truth (Angiolo), and to Brandha (Incurable Optimist), dam of stakes winners El Darwin (Il Campione), Es de Temer (Il Campione), and Sommerwind (Sebi Halo).
After two earlier layoffs in his campaign, El Emporio now appears to be at the peak of his powers, with several promising paths ahead in the months to come.
