LA PLATA.- After a couple of solid placings, El Ernesto got back to winning ways on Thursday, capturing the Especial Talavera over 1400 meters on the main track at La Plata. The race was the first of three above-par events on a lively afternoon at the Bosque oval.

Carrying 56 kilos and employing a patient, off-the-pace trip, the Señor Candy colt out of Es Bonita (Dynaformer) lived up to his billing as the favorite, aided by a polished ride from Kevin Méndez.

Settled mid-pack early as Kambai Vera (Cima de Triomphe, 55.5) set the pace tracked closely by Vespaciano (Daniel Boone, 56), El Ernesto advanced steadily around the turn, loomed into contention at the top of the lane, and took command with authority 250 meters from home.

From there, it was smooth sailing for the dark bay trained by Gustavo Fabbian, who drew off smartly to defeat Twitch Hurricane (Hurricane Cat, 58) by five easy lengths, with Vespaciano another half-head back in third. Final time for the race was 1:24.79.

Bred by Haras La Pasión, and from the female family of outstanding sire Orpen (Lure), El Ernesto now owns 6 wins from 17 starts, 2 of those in non-claiming company, having also captured the Especial Ondine in December of 2024.
