Runner-up to Don Rocky 12 months ago, the son of Bodemeister turned in the standout performance of Sunday’s card

After eliminating outsider El Monsón (Hat Ninja) right at the break, El Gazpacho gradually built another convincing performance to capture the Clásico Blend (L-1600m, turf), Sunday’s feature event at Hipódromo de Palermo.
Sent off the heavy favorite at 1.60-1, the son of Bodemeister adapted perfectly to the pace set by Costo Cero (Daddy Long Legs) and settled comfortably in fourth, tracking at a prudent distance while waiting for the stretch to launch his move.
Once straightened away—and after making Kevin Banegas work a bit to switch leads—the winner rapidly closed ground and soon began overpowering Fiolo Boss (Holy Boss), who had inherited the lead when the early pacesetter weakened.
Inside the final 150 meters, El Gazpacho fully asserted his superiority and crossed the wire 2 1/2 lengths clear of Fiolo Boss, while Gritalo Carlitos (Malenchini) completed the trifecta another seven lengths behind. Two more lengths back came Costo Cero in fourth, with El Monsón trailing the field after both his poor start and an overall subpar effort. The final time was 1:36.94.
Bred by Haras La Pasión, racing for Stud La Frontera, and trained by Nicolás Martín Ferro—though officially saddled by his father Enrique—the horse recorded the eighth victory of an excellent career and his fourth stakes success.
Previously, El Gazpacho had already captured the Mesa del Senado (L), the Urbano de Iriondo (L), and the Jockey Club de Venezuela (L), in addition to the Handicap Whipper In.
Twelve months earlier, he had finished runner-up to Don Rocky (Equal Stripes) in this same race.
This time, El Gazpacho got his revenge.
