After more than a year without competing, the son of Il Campione—winner of the 2024 Anchorena (G1)—finished 13 1/2 lengths behind Second I D in a conditional race over 1,200 meters on the dirt

HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas (Special for Turf Diario).— After nearly 15 months without competing, and over 1,200 meters on the dirt, El Que Sabe finished last in his United States debut this Thursday at Oaklawn Park.
The son of Il Campione, who had signed off in December 2024 by winning the Gran Premio Joaquín S. de Anchorena (G1) over the San Isidro turf mile, finished 13 1/2 lengths behind Second I D (Maclean's Music) in the eighth race of the day, a US$ 62,500 allowance optional claiming with a US$ 126,000 purse.
With Keith Asmussen in the irons, and now defending the colors of Tristar Farm LLC under the training of Ron Moquett, El Que Sabe ran at the back of the field throughout a very fast-paced race, with fractions of 21s 48/100 and 44s 62/100.
The jockey attempted to move him closer at the end of the turn, but realizing he could not make up ground and looked uncomfortable, he opted not to pressure him excessively and let him finish at his own pace, protecting him with the future in mind.
During his campaign in Argentina, El Que Sabe had 2 victories and a second-place finish in the Gran Premio Palermo (G1) on a dirt surface, but he had never raced at a distance shorter than 1,400 meters. As is well known, the speed is entirely different, even more so in the United States.
Considering the difficulties, the layoff, and the distance, there is no choice but to wait for the next outing of the 2024 Champion Miler of Argentina, surely seeking more favorable conditions for the abilities he demonstrated during his first campaign.
