The colt from Stud Pauli had an ideal arrival on the Jockey Club turf, defeating Listen by 2 1/2 lengths

After an opaque run over the 1200 meters of the Clásico Santiago Luro (G2) on the Palermo dirt, El Rayo Pass returned to full speed, stepped onto the San Isidro turf for the first time, and on Saturday decisively claimed the Clásico Velocidad (G3-1000 m, turf), one of the most important races on the calendar for two-year-olds at the short distance.

A colt with a beautiful story to tell, the son of the most generous Distinctiv Passion defends the colors of Stud Pauli, the leader in the standings, but has two special partners: journalist Sebastián Heredia and announcer Mauro Bruno, to whom Mauro Castellazzi, the name behind the blue and yellow silks, gifted a small share a few months ago.

The Marcelo Sueldo trainee undoubtedly felt comfortable on the grass, running with a closing rush to achieve his second and best victory. Gonzalo Borda was patient with him and let him settle, far from rushing him, while Just Fun (Le Blues) and Listen (Le Blues) came out fighting for the lead at the start.

By the middle of the race, it was the latter who was left alone in front, opening up a good lead that, for a moment, seemed definitive. However, that was where El Rayo Pass began to run strongly and close the gap, tilting the scales in his favor on the outside during the final furlong.

The wire found the winner with a 2 1/2-length advantage over Listen, who tired late, while Wek End Pass (Distinctiv Passion) completed a 1-3 finish for the stallion and for Haras El Alfalfar as the breeder. The favorite Just Fun faded to finish only fifth, all after a time of 57s85/100 on a normal track.

El Rayo Pass is another quality offspring for the G2 winner La Toscana Cat (Easing Along), who had already produced the also G2 winner Genovesa Key (Key Deputy), the mother in turn of the excellent Sarzana Pass (Distinctiv Passion), winner of the Carlos Casares (G3) and México (G3) classics, among others, within the great family of Sugary (World Cup), a foundation mare for the establishment of Alfredo Camogli.
