El Resero Con Capa can roll up his sleeves, too, when a stakes victory is on the line

The favorite delivered and preserved his unbeaten record around La Plata’s one-turn course, though he had to work harder than expected to get the job done
LA PLATA.- It took a little more effort than expected, but El Resero Con Capa once again confirmed his supremacy among La Plata’s one-turn sprinters on Thursday.
Displaying both class and courage, the son of Angiolo captured the Clásico Asociación Bonaerense de Propietarios de Caballos de Carrera (G3) over 1200 meters on a fast dirt track, maintaining his stranglehold on the division.
Quickly into stride, the heavy favorite found himself embroiled in an early battle with Garufa Mask (Mask) and Azúcar Negro (Angiolo), setting demanding fractions of :22.98 and :46.68 for the opening 800 meters.
Such an aggressive pace raised doubts about whether the Stud Tres Jotas representative would have enough left for the finish.
In the stretch, however, he displayed the kind of determination that separates good horses from the rest.
Digging deep when challenged, El Resero Con Capa held Azúcar Negro safely at bay to score by one length, while Huracán Risk (Security Risk) closed for third, another length and a half behind, unable to make his late kick count.
Rodo (Flowing Rye) finished a distant fourth, 15 lengths farther back, while the returning Garufa Mask completed the order after an uncharacteristically poor performance.
The final time of 1:11.90 was less impressive than the fractions suggested.
Trained by Carlos A. Vigil, El Resero Con Capa was ridden by Adrián Giannetti, who recorded his third graded stakes victory of the week following his Group 1 double on Monday at San Isidro.
Giannetti offered an insightful assessment afterward while speaking with Daniel Sinegub for La Plata’s racing broadcast.
“I've always had a lot of confidence in this horse, and he's a major player in this division,” Giannetti said. “The track and the distance suit him perfectly. We tried stretching him out, but we weren't convinced, so we brought him back to his ideal conditions. Here at La Plata, it will take a horse from another planet to beat him.
“This time he didn't leave me with quite as strong an impression because he went very fast early and had to work late. But he takes the others out of their comfort zone and they simply can't keep up. That's where he makes the difference. Last time he didn't have to go quite so fast early, which is why he won more impressively. Still, he ended up doing everything right.”
Now the winner of six races from 11 starts—with only one defeat at this venue—El Resero Con Capa stands as the undisputed king of La Plata's sprint division.
And as his jockey suggested, it may take something truly extraordinary to dethrone him.
