In a finish dominated by two Angiolo progeny bred by Tres Jotas, the homebred runner for the stable ultimately edged past the record-setting horse by a head

LA PLATA.- Practically since its inception, the Clásico Ciudad de La Plata (G2, 1200m, dirt) has been one of the most anticipated fixtures of the year at El Bosque—one of those races that never disappoint, consistently delivering dramatic stretch runs. Wednesday’s edition was no exception, with El Resero Con Capa emerging as the new leader of the southern turn-sprint division after narrowly denying the heavily favored Es Aristocrático by a head.
It was the perfect cap to an unforgettable afternoon for Stud Tres Jotas, the undisputed owner of speed on Dardo Rocha day. A short while earlier, the team had already celebrated with La Meninha (Le Blues) in the Clásico Cooperativa de Criadores de Caballos de Pura Sangre de Carrera (L), and both the Ciudad de La Plata winner and runner-up were bred by the operation.
Once again under the professional guidance of Arnaldo Vigil and Adrián Giannetti, the colt delivered the best possible debut on the track where he trains every morning, having raced exclusively at Palermo and San Isidro until now.
Much of the outcome hinged on the race dynamics. El Resero Con Capa quickly found an ideal early position, settling third behind Emmspacial Boy (Emmanuel) and East Ender (Il Campione), who rocketed out of the gates. The former faltered after only a few strides, and Giannetti wasted no time diving into the gap, seizing the lead midway around the turn. At the same moment, drawn on the inside in post 2, the heavy favorite Es Aristocrático was forced to race closer to the pace than usual, trying to avoid potential traffic trouble.
Turning for home, El Resero Con Capa hugged the rail and braced for the late surge from the Stud Pauli runner, who threw everything he had at him but had to settle for second—mirroring his runner-up finish in the same race in 2024, that time behind El Mejor Recuerdo (Il Campione).
A claim and a prolonged inquiry followed, though the yellow flag eventually came down with no changes, even if the head-on images clearly showed the winner drifting outward in the final meters.
A special mention is owed to the remarkable Marlotte (El Corredor), dam of El Resero Con Capa, but also of G1 winner Madonna Benois (Angiolo), multiple G2 heroine Mery Laurent (Angiolo), and Qué Tarde Gris (Il Campione), who this season captured the Clásico 9 de Julio (G2) at San Isidro. A broodmare of extraordinary generosity.
