The son of Angiolo will seek to regain leadership of the division with a victory in the Clásico Julio Corte (L)

LA PLATA.- A highly appealing showdown among the local sprinters will take place Thursday in the Clásico Julio Corte (L-1100m, dirt) for horses aged three and up under weight-for-age conditions.
The race appears ideally suited for El Resero Con Capa to reclaim his place atop the sprint rankings after losing some momentum in recent weeks. Hero of last season’s Clásico Ciudad de La Plata (G2), the son of Angiolo opened his 2026 campaign with a victory in the Clásico Emilio Casares (L) before disappointing in two subsequent attempts over 1400 meters.
First, he was no match for Campo Verde (Strategos) in the Clásico Jockey Club Argentino (L), and later finished a well-beaten fifth, nearly 10 lengths behind Río New (Hurricane Cat), in the Clásico Mesa del Senado (L) on the turf at San Isidro.
There is little doubt that sprinting around one turn is where the Tres Jotas runner produces his best performances, which explains the confidence that this time he can once again show his full potential.
Standing in his way will be several dangerous rivals, led by Rugiente (Il Campione), already the winner of 10 races and returning from a two-month freshening. A multiple stakes winner, he exits consecutive runner-up finishes in the Handicap Court Harwell and Handicap Equal Stripes at Palermo over wet tracks, and returns to a venue where he previously captured the Handicap Snow Gambler and finished fourth behind El Resero Con Capa in the aforementioned Ciudad de La Plata.
After a long drought, Magyar rediscovered the winner’s circle in the Especial Malvinas Argentinas, and now the son of Lenovo will try to build on that momentum in a race that appears considerably tougher than that assignment.
The colt Emm Yugo (Emmanuel) comes off a highly encouraging effort in the Clásico Full Sail, where he pushed Encantador Pass (Distinctiv Passion) to the limit before missing by only a nose, with Redentor Scat (Knockout)—also entered here—close behind in third. Both look like serious trifecta contenders.
