LA PLATA.- The generous 40,000,000-peso purse offered by Hipódromo de La Plata for the Gran Premio Selección de Potrancas (G1-2000 m, dirt), one of the three top-level events remaining on the southern calendar, has clearly had an effect.

A total of 14 fillies are entered for the Oaks, the centerpiece of the card scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 21, Spring Day, when the Clásico Florentino Ameghino (1200 m, dirt) for mares 4 years and older, run under weight-for-age conditions, will also be contested.

Among the entries to watch is Elenika (Winning Prize), winner of the Clásico Polla de Potrancas (G2), who comes off an unexpected defeat to Mis Locuras (Manipulator) in the Clásico Diego White (G3) and will meet her again, seeking revenge and to reassert herself as the leading filly of the generation.

A surprise entrant is Calle de Tierra (Strategos), who just returned to competition with a win over 1200 meters in the Clásico Raúl Lottero (L), a tough contest in which she covered a sharp increase in distance in a very short period of time.

Other likely participants include Cala Nova (Treasure Beach), Cálida Sonrisa (Cosmic Trigger), Class Life (Fortify), Evelia (Daddy Long Legs), La Graviere (Seahenge), Mi Gran Chica (Seahenge), Mimosa Grey (Zensational), Nevada Top (Puerto Escondido), Set for All (Cityscape), The Great Village (The Great Day), and Vida Bohemia (Winning Prize).

For the Florentino Ameghino, the probable field is smaller, with just nine entries, but several stand out, such as the multiple stakes winner Save Your Tears (Full Mast) and High Rimout (Remote), currently progressing through a significant developmental stage. Other likely participants are Equal Yoga (Equal Talent), Lady Pirata (Sir Winsalot), Re Guaraní (Grand Reward), Señora Bagaces (Lizard Island), Woman Edition (Equal Edition), Grand Sara Jet (Grand Reward), and Tal Hechicera (Recital), the last two entered conditionally.

Final confirmations and jockey declarations are due by 11 a.m. on Monday.
