After 32 years, a 2-year-old filly achieved her first career victory in the traditional Clásico at Palermo

The first major step of the season for 2-year-old fillies at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo delivered a massive upset as the outsider Embozada Rim secured victory in the Clásico Carlos Casares (G3-1000m, dirt).
Sent off at odds of 33-to-1 ($34.00), the bay filly representing Stud Pocholo (Dolores) virtually led from pillar to post to win convincingly. It was her first victory in two career starts, following a mid-December debut where she finished fifth—later promoted to fourth—well behind Venus Win (Gershwin), who was subsequently disqualified for a medication violation.
The daughter of Remote continued the trend of longshot winners that began a day earlier at San Isidro, following the upset victories of Full Keynote (Full Mast) and Miss Talento (Equal Talent) in the Gran Premio Miguel A. Martínez de Hoz (G1) and the Clásico Juan Shaw (G2), respectively.
Under jockey Lucas González, Embozada Rim broke and veered outward, a maneuver the rider quickly corrected. From there, he allowed her to run strongly on the outside portion of the track.
Mayan Goddess (Made You Look) and Principesca Bella (Made You Look) attempted to track her pace; the latter faded early, while the former tried to close the gap for a bit longer but without success.
At the wire, the winner held a 1 1/2-length advantage over Mayan Goddess, with Se Cruzan (Manipulator) another 4 lengths back in third. The final time was :58.35 over a track surface that remains deep and demanding.
Saddled by Héctor Martínez and bred by Haras Firmamento, Embozada Rim is the first filly to break her maiden in the Clásico Carlos Casares since Pousse (Bold Second) achieved the feat in 1994, then trained by the late Hugo López and ridden by Walter Serrudo.
Out of the graded-placed mare Embozada Nistel (Van Nistelrooy) and backed by the "E" family pedigree, Embozada Rim made a major statement on the Palermo straight.
