Undefeated in three starts and recent winner of the Alcibiades Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, the filly looms as the favorite for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), with Miss Monica and Domain Expansion leading a highly dangerous opposition

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (From a special correspondent).— Brendan Walsh has spent years chasing a Breeders' Cup victory and knows all too well the sting of coming up just short. This Friday at Keeneland, he will hold one of his finest opportunities yet with Emphatic, the clear-cut favorite for the $2-million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1)over 1,700 meters.

The filly enters undefeated in three starts, displaying a rising trajectory that has her trainer thrilled and boasting credentials that place her atop a demanding field.

“She’s coming into this in tremendous shape. Everything has gone picture-perfect since the Alcibiades Stakes (G1),and she couldn't be coming into the race any better,” Walsh assured.

Emphatic, who will have Tyler Gaffalione in the irons from post 10, won on debut over 1,200 meters at Colonial Downs. She then made a successful two-turn debut in the Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park, cruising by five and a quarter lengths. Her top-level breakthrough came in the Alcibiades Stakes (G1) right here at Keeneland, where she defeated Summer Starlet (City of Light) by a length and a quarter while earning a 95 Beyer Speed Figure.

That performance validated her stamina for the 1,700-meter trip and earned her 9-5 favoritism on the morning line.

Walsh has saddled 13 previous Breeders' Cup runners without hitting the board in victory lane. Among his past heartbreaks, he vividly recalls East Avenue (Medaglia D'Oro), the favorite in the 2024 Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1),who finished a disappointing ninth: “We’ve had our share of disappointments with the 2-year-olds. Hopefully, we can rewrite that script on Friday,” he reflected.

The top threat may come in the form of Miss Monica, conditioned by Bob Baffert, who won her first two starts at Del Mar by a combined margin of 12 lengths. The daughter of Early Voting comes off a six-and-a-quarter-length romp in the Del Mar Debutante Stakes (G1), though she must now route around two turns for the first time.

Baffert opted to skip the Oak Leaf Stakes (G2), giving her extra time to train at Churchill Downs.

“I wanted to give her time to keep developing. We’ll find out if it was the right call when they hit the top of the stretch,” he remarked.

Another intriguing contender is Domain Expansion (Speaker's Corner), who drew off to a seven-length shocker in the Oak Leaf Stakes (G2) after debuting second on the turf.

Her trainer, Leonard Powell, believes she belongs alongside the nation's best: “We’ve already taken on the best of the West. Now it’s time to face the best of the East,” he noted.

Also featured is Manuka Honey (Upstart), undefeated and recent winner of the Pocahontas Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs for Brian Lynch.

Mark Casse will send out a two-pronged attack with Voyager (Justify) and Lexi's Charm (Lexitonian).

Voyager enters off a victory in the Natalma Stakes (G1) over the Woodbine turf, though she remains in search of her first win on dirt. Lexi's Charm, on the other hand, turned heads when dominating an allowance race at Keeneland by 12 lengths, earning a 90 Beyer figure.

Todd Pletcher saddles Life Changing (Life Is Good) and Badittude (Uncle Mo), both representing Repole Stable. The former was a seven-length debut winner at Saratoga before failing to build on that initial impression. “I still don’t think we’ve seen her true potential. We’ve always felt she would appreciate more distance,” Pletcher explained.

Brad Cox relies on Foxiest (Gun Runner), a recent maiden winner, alongside Scarlett Begonia (Life Is Good), while Rum Twist (Mandaloun) and Revenge of the Sis (Girvin), second and third in the Frizette Stakes (G1), round out the 12-horse lineup.

Five fillies arrive off graded stakes victories and three remain undefeated, underscoring the depth of this edition.Emphatic possesses the experience, current form, and the distinct track-and-distance advantage over the Keenelandmain track. For Walsh, who has been close to Breeders' Cup glory so many times, this may finally be the moment to erase a long-standing frustration.
