The Triple Alliance homebred scored by an easy three lengths over heavy favorite It’s My Look
LA PLATA.— There was a defining moment that allowed End of Spring to secure victory in the Clásico Miss Loren (1,600m, normal dirt), the feature race of the day at the city’s racetrack.
It happened midway through the turn, when the leader Sia (Puerto Escondido) began to drift wide and carried It’s My Look (Equal Stripes) with her. This not only cost the favorite valuable meters and seconds but also allowed the winner to slip through on the inside without any effort and take control from there.
Of course, credit must also go to the sharp riding of Juan C. Villagra, the jockey aboard the daughter of Il Campione, who stayed alert to seize the opportunity and get the jump on his rival. With superior closing speed, the rest was straightforward for the Triple Alliance homebred against an It’s My Look who possesses a longer, more galloping stride and was coming off races at greater distances.
At the wire, the pupil of Guillermo Frenkel Santillán drew off to a comfortable 3-length advantage over the mare from Stud Los Betos trained by Gustavo Scarpello, with Sia finishing third another 5 lengths back, and Cara Niña(Manipulator) completing the field a block away. The final time was a solid 1m37s18/100, following fractions of 25s15/100, 48s76/100, and 1m13s34/100.
For End of Spring, this marked her fifth victory—her first at the stakes level—from a total of 15 starts, pushing her earnings to the brink of 32,000,000 pesos.
End of Spring is a daughter of the recently crowned Broodmare of the Year Roman Princess (Roman Ruler), who also produced the three-time champion Charm (Strategos) and the double handicap winner and G2-placed Emergent (Il Campione). All are part of an old Haras Comalal family that has been revitalized by these latest names.
End of Spring seems to have found the La Plata layout to be the ideal ground to shine at the top level. It’s My Look was left with a score to settle, and a likely rematch between the two could prove highly entertaining.
