This Friday, the Hipódromo de San Isidro will feature a highly anticipated program highlighted by three key stakes: the Ensayo (G3-1800 m, turf), the Engrillado (2000 m, turf), and the Marina Lezcano (1600 m, turf).
The Ensayo, a prep for the Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1)—the second leg of Argentina’s Triple Crown—draws 11 probable entries. Ardiendo (Remote), winner of the Gran Criterium (G1) and runner-up in the 2000 Guineas (G1), leads the list. Others likely to participate include Es Por Amor (Strategos), third in the Guineas, El Ocurrente (Fortify), Forging (Forge), Friends are Friends (Cityscape), Have Fun (Fortify), Jazzy Frank (Gidu), Magistral Boy (Daniel Boone), Neat Colt (Treasure Beach), Piñazo (John F. Kennedy), and Real Rim (Remote).
The Engrillado, for four-year-olds and up, serves as a prep for the upcoming Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1) in October at Gávea, Brazil. The main protagonists include Vundu (Suggestive Boy), winner of the Clásico Potrillón, Honest Boy (Heliostatic), fresh from his Gran Premio 25 de Mayo (G1) triumph, and Qué Tarde Gris (Il Campione), victor of the Clásico 9 de Julio (G2). Other entries are Beatles (Sixties Song), Capitán Kid (Daniel Boone), Don Tigre (Cityscape), El Pulque (Heliostatic), El Triplo (Mask), Gadzooks (Galán de Cine), One Thing (Brz-Verrazano), Puro de Cuba (Long Island Sound), Shumpeter (Lucullan), and Touch the Stars (Fortify).
For three-year-old fillies on the road to the Clásico Federico de Alvear (G2), the Marina Lezcano will feature six possible starters: Catys Queen (Lizard Island), Great Fight (Equal Stripes), Invocación (Treasure Beach), Mi Gran Chica (Seahenge), Pale Ale (Brz-Outstrip), and Sanky (Seize).
The week at San Isidro concludes on Wednesday, September 3, highlighted by the Handicap Wally (1300 m, dirt) for fillies and mares four years old and up. Maximum impost of 61 1/2 kg falls on Kelly Rose (Il Campione), slightly above Candlelit (Equal Stripes), while Aiyanna (Santillano) carries 60 1/2 kg.
