The colt by Dubawi out of the extraordinary two-time Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine scored by 2 3/4 lengths at Doncaster, with Colin Keane in the saddle. His trainers, John and Thady Gosden, highlighted his potential and are eyeing a classic campaign for 2027

DONCASTER, England (Special for Turf Diario).— The story of Enable (Nathaniel) began with a debut victory and, nearly ten years later, her son Entrust decided to follow the exact same path. The first runner out of the unforgettable champion to reach the track made a convincing debut at Doncaster, winning a maiden contest by 2 3/4 lengths and sparking the first dreams looking toward the 2027 Epsom Derby (G1).

Carrying the traditional colors of Juddmonte, conditioned by John and Thady Gosden, and ridden by Colin Keane, the son of Dubawi displayed exciting ability, though he also showed he still has plenty to learn.

Enable won on debut at Newcastle in late 2016. That victory marked the starting point of an extraordinary career that featured 11 G1 victories and two consecutive triumphs in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1), establishing her as one of the greatest mares in European racing history.

The comparison is inevitable, even if the demands of such a legacy are immense.

For now, Entrust accomplished his initial objective. After a somewhat sluggish start, he settled quickly, traveled comfortably behind the leaders, and responded with a decisive turn of foot when Keane asked for the ultimate effort.

The Irish jockey did not need to push him hard to put distance between himself and the field, crossing the wire with a clear advantage: "It was lovely to start off like this. John and Thady were happy with him in his work, though their 2-year-olds usually need a run to show their best," Keane commented.

"He was a bit slow away, but after the first 200 or 400 meters he settled down, traveled very well, and quickened when I asked him. He has a lot of natural ability, though he's still quite raw," he added.

The rider highlighted the colt's upside for further improvement: "At times he wanted to go forward while looking at everything around him, so I imagine there is plenty of room for improvement. He moves very well and I think better ground would suit him even more. He has the pedigree to be a very good horse and he has passed his first test," he noted.

The impression was equally positive for Thady Gosden, who made no secret of his satisfaction: "He is still very young in his mind and is constantly learning. Doncaster can be an intimidating track for a debutant, but he handled everything very well," he explained.

The trainer recalled that Enable was not a precocious filly either, and that her son underwent a patient preparation process without being rushed.

"He took his time, just like his mother, who didn't debut until late in her 2-year-old season. He responded well to everything we asked of him," he added.

The team's plan is to wrap up his 2026 campaign and allow him to continue developing through the European winter.

"Most likely we will put him away until next year. He'll probably start in another novice race in the spring, carrying a penalty, and then we'll see where we go from there," Gosden anticipated.

Bookmakers reacted immediately to the victory: Paddy Power trimmed his odds for the Epsom Derby (G1) from 25-1 to 20-1, reflecting the interest generated by Enable's first runner.

Asked about similarities between mother and son, Thady Gosden chose to highlight a trait he considers fundamental.

"Enable was a wonderful mare. She had a fantastic attitude and enjoyed her training just as much as racing. Entrustalso thoroughly enjoys his work and has a great temperament, which we were able to see today," he stated.

By a sire of Dubawi's stature and out of a mother who defined an era, Entrust was born into high expectations. His debut makes it impossible to predict how far he will go, but he left a first impression that invites close observation moving forward.

The road toward the major classics of 2027 has only just begun. And for Juddmonte, seeing a son of Enable win in their colors once again carries a truly special meaning.
