The Son of Angiolo Goes for a Fourth Straight Win in the Clásico España (L)
LA PLATA.- Thursday’s card at La Plata will feature the final tune-up ahead of the Clásico Ciudad de La Plata (G2, Nov. 19): the Clásico España (L, 1200m, dirt) for 4-year-olds and up, with Es Aristocrático set as the standout.
The Angiolo colt from Stud Pauli is in top form, boasting three consecutive wins and firmly established as a force in La Plata’s sprint division. His streak began with the Especial La Plata Capital and Frío Wells, and was most recently extended with a commanding Clásico Club Hípico de Chile victory, where he defeated Lo Dejo Todo (Le Blues) by an impressive five lengths.
Es Aristocrático typically tracks off the pace before unleashing a strong late run, a strategy he will employ again against seasoned rivals.
Among his challengers is Garufa Mask (Mask), who will look to close ground on the front runners in his return to La Plata after a series of solid efforts at top level races, including a Clásico Gendarmería Nacional Argentina win, second in the Clásico Reconquista (L), and fourth in the Pablo Gustavo Falero.
Le Massif (Le Ken), winner of the Julio Corte (L) and Mariano Moreno, knows how to handle races of this nature, though he finished third, ten lengths behind the favorite, in the recent Clásico Club Hípico de Chile, a gap difficult to overturn under normal conditions.
Mr Versace (Fortify) brings plenty of experience, but his performances on La Plata’s dirt have never matched his form on San Isidro turf, where he won the Clásico Antártida Argentina (L) and was runner-up in the Pippermint (G2) and Anasagasti (L). While seasoned, his dirt capabilities remain uncertain.
Finally, South Ballado (AP Candy) could provide a surprise. Fresh off his third career win at Palermo, he makes his first step into higher-level company with plenty of promise, presenting an intriguing opportunity to make the leap.
