DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (Special for Turf Diario).— In a race that had everything—from a baffling trip to a thrilling finish—Fairy Glen ended up writing the most important chapter of her career by claiming the Dubai Gold Cup (G2), one of the most grueling tests of the Dubai World Cup meeting.

It was a victory built on patience... and on chaos. For a large part of the 3,200 meters, the absolute protagonist was Sunway (Galiway), who under the ride of Brazilian Silvestre de Sousa stunned everyone by opening up a massive lead over the field, which reached nearly 25 lengths in a race that began with a very slow tempo.

The gamble was bold. But it wasn't enough. As they turned for home, the effort began to take its toll. The isolation at the front and the accumulated fatigue started to show, and the chasing pack, which had traveled expectantly, reorganized for the finish.

That was where the figure of Fairy Glen emerged. Guided intelligently by Mickael Barzalona, the daughter of Farhhfound racing room along the inside at just the right moment and launched her decisive move. First, she overhauled Caballo De Mar (Phoenix of Spain), who had taken the lead in the straight, and then sustained her bid to cross the wire with a half-length advantage.

Behind her, the merit of Caballo De Mar was enormous, digging in until the end after having been the first to go after the lone leader.

For the team of Simon Crisford and Ed Crisford, the triumph had a special flavor, not only because of the level of the race but also due to prior doubts. “She was coming off a win in the Balanchine over 1,800 meters, a distance clearly short for her, but she has improved immensely since then,” explained Ed Crisford. “We weren't sure if she could get the 3,200 meters, but Mickael rode her perfectly and she responded very well.”

His father agreed: “Perhaps we took a risk going to two miles, but the development favored those coming from behind. She has a great turn of foot and she proved it.”

Barzalona himself also highlighted his mount's adaptability: “She settled quickly and traveled comfortably. When I saw I had horse left, I waited for the right moment. And when I asked her, she responded very well.”

Bred by Godolphin and owned by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Fairy Glen thus confirmed her great form in the 2026 season, adding her second consecutive G2 and projecting herself as a stayer with enormous potential.

In a race that seemed decided long before the end, logic ultimately prevailed... but only at the very last instant.

Because at Meydan, the Dubai Gold Cup proved once again that at extreme distances, everything can change in a matter of meters.
