Became the first woman to reach 50 victories and graduate as a jockey in Uruguay since the reopening of Maroñas. Running Gun and Guitarrera made headlines in the stakes races

LAS PIEDRAS, Uruguay (Special para Turf Diario).- It was a day to remember at Hipódromo de Las Piedras on Friday, where the results of the prestigious Jockey Club (2000m, dirt) and Selección (2000m, dirt) almost took a backseat to the historic achievement of talented jockey Fernanda Rodríguez.
With her victory in the eighth race aboard the Brazilian-bred Luz do Ceu (Can the Man), she reached 50 official wins, the required number to graduate as a jockey. This milestone made her the first woman to achieve this feat since the reopening of Maroñas and marks her official graduation as a professional jockey.
"It's something I still can’t believe, it’s so beautiful and makes me incredibly happy. Since I first entered the racetrack, I always said I would fight for it no matter how difficult it got, and this is just the beginning because I’m aiming for much more. I’m very grateful to all the owners and trainers who helped me. I always enjoy each step and each moment, so I’m always calm, although I knew I could reach 50 wins; I had confidence in the horse, which had a good chance, but I waited without impatience," said the jockey to colleague Germán Boiso after her achievement.
Fernanda made her debut on February 2, 2020 at Hipódromo de Colonia, and it took her three years to race at Maroñas. Once she reached the country’s top racetrack, her career began to flourish, ultimately reaching the impressive milestone of 50 wins.
As for the classics, Las Piedras fans were denied the chance to enjoy a triple crown winner in 2024. Running Gun took revenge for his defeat in the Polla de Potrillos, leaving Dubai Zun (Sonic Mule) in third. Dubai Zun, who had beaten him in that race, was the only contender left in the series.
Ridden by Vagner Leal and trained by Antonio Cintra (presented by Jorge Rey), the son of Full Mast out of La Bamba Chica (Pure Prize), bred by Haras de La Pomme, ran forward from the start, always controlling New Future (Brz-Hofburg) and Dubai Zun, who trailed by half a length and a half length, finishing in 2m6s36/100.
In the Selección, Guitarrera (Mestre Gosik) improved greatly after her fourth place in the Polla and triumphed by a comfortable 5 1/4 lengths over Best Bright (Brz-Can the Man). Everton Rodrigues rode the filly trained by Pablo Duarte, bred by Haras Don Juca, and racing for Stud Luca.
