A bacterial lung infection cut short his campaign this season and, while he is expected to make a full recovery, he will be unable to return to competition for the remainder of the year

NEWMARKET, England (Special for Turf Diario).— The brilliant Field Of Gold, Europe's Champion 3-Year-Old Miler and one of the defining talents of his generation, has been officially retired from racing and will embark on his stud career at Juddmonte beginning with the 2027 breeding season.

The decision was reached after the son of Kingman suffered a bacterial lung infection that forced him to miss his primary seasonal targets, the Lockinge Stakes (G1) and the Queen Anne Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot. While the colt is expected to make a full and complete recovery, his connections determined he would not be able to return to peak Group 1 fitness this year, opting instead to safeguard his immense value as a stallion prospect.

Bred by Juddmonte and conditioned by John Gosden, Field Of Gold gave clear indications of his exceptional quality from the very beginning of his juvenile season. After a commanding debut victory by more than three lengths at Newmarket, he confirmed his classic potential with a comprehensive victory in the Solario Stakes (G3).

However, it was during his classic campaign that he truly reached the pinnacle of his powers. He commenced his three-year-old season by capturing the Craven Stakes (G3) before securing a historic classic breakthrough in the Irish 2000 Guineas (G1). His true masterpiece, however, came in the St James's Palace Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot. On that memorable afternoon, he delivered an unforgettable exhibition, drawing away with authority over Poule d'Essai des Poulains (G1) victor Henri Matisse (Wootton Bassett) and gaining comprehensive revenge on English 2000 Guineas (G1) winner Ruling Court (Dubawi).

That devastating performance earned him an official international rating of 126 pounds, while Timeform assigned him a master rating of 132p, perfectly matching the figure achieved by his illustrious sire, Kingman, in the exact same event.
