NEWMARKET, Inglaterra (Special for Turf Diario).- Anticipation to see Field Of Gold back in action will have to wait. The outstanding son of Kingman, a dual Group 1 winner this season with victories in the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes, will not line up in the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York as he continues to recover from a setback suffered in last week’s G1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, Field Of Gold was found to be slightly off the following day after a lackluster effort over the mile, where he had gone off as favorite. Initial examinations revealed some inflammation in one of his pasterns, prompting connections to pull the plug on any short-term plans and focus entirely on his well-being.

“He’s in good spirits and has shown encouraging signs. He’s back walking without issue, which is a positive,” said Barry Mahon, European racing manager for Juddmonte. “We’ve postponed the X-rays by 24 hours. The longer we wait, the clearer the image will be. If all goes well, he could return to light exercise by the weekend or early next week.”

With York officially off the table, attention now turns to a possible comeback in one of the major autumn targets in Europe. The G1 Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 13 remains in play, albeit without pressure. Other options include the G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp over a mile on September 7, and further down the line, the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on October 18.

One notable absence, however, was his name from the entries for the G1 Champion Stakes, also on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot, which suggests connections are not yet ready to test the colt over 2000 meters.

“The plan before Goodwood was to stick to the mile,” Mahon added. “After what happened, we haven’t discussed race targets. The priority is his full recovery. Once he’s back to himself, we’ll see what the options are.”

With just two defeats to his name and a sparkling first half of the season, Field Of Gold remains one of the brightest stars in Europe. His return will be eagerly awaited—not just for his class, but for what he could mean in shaping the autumn championship races. For now, all eyes are on the horse himself—and letting him set the pace.e los tiempos.
