Fillies take center stage at San Isidro with a competitive lineup on grass

The single card scheduled for next week at Hipódromo de San Isidro was finalized on Tuesday, set for Saturday, September 12, featuring a stakes double header led by the Clásico Federico de Alvear (G2-1800 m, turf) and the Clásico Empiric (1400 m, turf).
As noted, both stakes events are reserved for 3-year-old fillies—the same division slated to contest the Clásico Francisco J. Beazley (G2) on Friday at Palermo, followed shortly by the Gran Premio Selección de Potrancas (G1) at La Plata.
Given that dense schedule, nobody should be surprised to see short fields, though on a positive note, both features were successfully preserved.
Serving as a prep for the Gran Premio Enrique Acebal (G1)—the premier spring turf target for sophomore fillies at the Jockey Club Argentino venue—the Clásico Federico de Alvear saw three scratches from its initial entries, leaving a field of seven runners.
The class benchmark on form is Siesta (Cityscape), a dual graded stakes winner at La Plata whose connections opted to target a venue change before aiming at the southern Oaks.
The Marcelo Sueldo trainee will face: Fly Cast (Made You Look), Fuurin (Cima de Triomphe), Just Dance (Daniel Boone), Oasis Moon (Dabster), Risk Free (Brz-Outstrip), and Ruby Rose (Il Campione).
As for the Clásico Empiric, a pair of scratches pared the lineup down to six contenders: Gota Clara Sos (Made You Look), Kona Ice (Treasure Beach), La Magia Existe (Backyard Heaven), Merecida Victoria (Edge of Victory), Poker Star (Cosmic Trigger), and Se Cruzan (Manipulator).
The card features 14 races in total, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and wrapping up around 8:00 p.m. Unfortunately, three interesting allowance races were canceled due to insufficient entries, though several quality maiden and allowance conditions remain on the program to complement the feature races and showcase future stakes-caliber runners.
