LA PLATA.- The sprinting division at the racetrack of this city saw a change of guard this Thursday, with Foggy Champ(Il Campione) reaching the top of the rankings by defeating the heavy favorite El Resero Con Capa (Angiolo) in the Clásico Juan Vucetich (1200 m, fast dirt), the centerpiece event of the card.
Stepping up from the allowance ranks in his stakes debut, the Stud-Haras L. y R. homebred put up a wall in the home straight to hold off the market leader—who returned a $1.70 dividend—by a neck, stopping the clock in an excellent 1m10s54/100.
Trained by the veteran Eduardo Tadei at the Hipódromo Palermo, the dark bay was active in the running from the start, tracking closely behind the early leader Hit It a Bou (Hit It a Bomb).
Behind them, El Resero Con Capa waited along the inside, looking somewhat uncomfortable and even having to be checked at one point around the turn. Once in the straight, Foggy Champ wasted no time taking command, just as the massive Stud Tres Jotas runner lost no time launching his outside bid.
For a moment, it seemed the public would breathe a sigh of relief, but Foggy Champ dug in resolutely to sustain that narrow advantage and keep his undefeated record at La Plata intact. Back in third, five lengths adrift in a separate race, Let Me Dance (Le Blues) completed the trifecta.
The day's hero is the first foal out of Foggysima (Orpen), a half-sister to the current G2 placegetter Foggy of Song(Sixties Song). Both are daughters of Foggy Stripes (Equal Stripes), who carrying these same Rosario silks captured the Gran Premio Criadores (G1) alongside the Clásico Arturo R. y Arturo Bullrich (G2), Clásico Ignacio e Ignacio F. Correas (G2), and Clásico Apertura (G3).
