Carrying the top weight of 58 kilos, the daughter of Qué Vida Buena secured the Especial Jockey Club del Perú at La Plata, clocking a remarkable time of 58s83/100

LA PLATA.— If it’s not with effort, it’s not worth it for Maylena. The quality of the rivals she faces doesn't seem to matter, nor do the kilos she is assigned; if she doesn’t add a bit of suspense to the story, it seems there’s no fun in it.
The point is that, beyond the suspense, the daughter of Qué Vida Buena once again achieved her goal. This Thursday at this city's racecourse, she added the third stakes victory of her very successful campaign, capturing the Especial Jockey Club del Perú, the most important race of the day, contested over 1000 meters on a fast sand track.
With Lucas Guida in the irons and carrying the top weight of 58 kilos, the Stud Levalle mare raced off the pace until the home stretch, where, moving out, she launched a long and steady charge.
On the front end, just off the turn, Terra Face (Fade Out, 52) had taken over the lead after chasing Estadía (Il Campione, 56) for 500 meters, opening up advantages that looked decisive.
But Maylena never gave up, continuing to dig in with her head down. In the closing stages, she managed to tip the scales in her favor, cutting short Terra Face's flight to prevail by just a head, with Sprint Back (Nickelback, 54) finishing third, a distant 6 lengths back. The time recorded by the Eduardo Corsiglia trainee was a very strong 58s83/100.
