LA PLATA.- Returning from a 183-day layoff and erasing in one stroke her eighth-place finish in the Handicap Tintilla over Palermo’s dirt, Seré Científica (54 kg) made a strong statement on Tuesday at La Plata, taking the Especial Haras Pozo de Luna(1000m, fast dirt), the first of two feature events on the card.

Open to mares aged four and older, the race unfolded at a lively clip, with the winner engaged in a head-to-head battle from the break with the always-speedy Una Causa (True Cause, 62), but with one crucial difference: an 8-kilo weight swing.

That handicap advantage proved decisive in the final furlong, when the Humberto Vilches trainee answered jockey Lucas Noriega Cobián’s call and drew clear, hitting the wire two lengths in front of Una Causa and Real Moon Kiss(Exchange Kiss, 52), who dead-heated for second.

A further three lengths back, and after breaking a step slowly, Señora Bagaces (Lizard Island, 58) checked in fourth, all after an excellent final clocking of :59.48, following splits of :23.87 and :47.30.

Racing for Stud El Ruso and bred privately by Rubén P. Migani, Seré Científica, now six, recorded her fifth win from just nine starts. She is the first foal out of Mina Fiel (Halo Sunshine), a debut winner at two, and hails from a family that traces back to La Charlanga (El Andaluz), her third dam, a stakes winner in the mid-1980s whose career left a mark in that era.
