Opening Haras Gran Muñeca’s spectacular weekend at Hipódromo de San IsidroFull Caluroso secured a convincing victory in the Clásico Vilmar Sanguinetti (1,400m), contested over the turf diagonal as an alternative stepping stone for 3-year-olds aiming at the main selective series.

The son of Full Mast had already shown promise earlier in his career, emerging as one of the standout names of the 2022 crop with a strong performance in the Clásico Precoces at La Plata late last season.

That early effort kept the Pauli Stud bay off the track for several months, returning only in mid-June. Since then, he has shown steady improvement: runner-up in a local conditional, then victorious over 1,200 meters at Bosque, and now, in his first try at 1,400 meters, displaying even more promising attributes that suggest his best is still to come.

With just five starters, it was the favorite Coro de Rojas (Daddy Long Legs) who set the pace, closely tracked by Tiffony Mo (El Moisés), through splits of :24.16 and :48.88.

Turning into the stretch, Coro de Rojas tried to open a lead along the rail, but jockey Gonzalo Borda angled Full Caluroso out into the center of the track, ready to launch his drive. From 300 meters out, Borda asked the winner for his effort, and Full Caluroso responded brilliantly, powering past his rivals with authority.

At the wire, he was three lengths clear of Coro de Rojas, who held off Tiffony Mo by three-quarters of a length, with the remainder well beaten, all in a final time of 1:27.38 over a fair turf course with some uneven ground.

Trained by Marcelo Sueldo (presented by Juan Pablo E. Díaz), Full Caluroso is the first foal of Caluaby (Cityscape), a half-sister to dual G1 winner Candy Nevada (Pure Prize), hailing from one of Brazil’s most distinguished families.

The Mauro Castellazzi-ridden colt continues to improve, and he is shaping up as a leading contender for the middle-distance classics later in the season.
