With Nysos retired—and with Journalism (Curlin) also out of the picture following his own retirement—the 1 1/4-mile test has taken on a whole new dynamic. Into that spotlight step Full Serrano and Subsanador, two of the elite Argentine exports to compete in the United States in recent years, both boasting high-caliber back class in California.

Trainer John Sadler confirmed Full Serrano (Full Mast) for the line-up, while keeping the door open for Chilean-bred The Goat (Midshipman). "The Goat and Full Serrano both have their final works on Saturday. I need to talk to The Goat's owners, as they might elect to go elsewhere, but Full Serrano is definitely in," confirmed Sadler.

Full Serrano, who puts the finishing touches on his preparation this Saturday, is no stranger to elite U.S. competition. Winner of the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1), he seeks to rediscover his sharpest form over a distance that suits his tactical stride—having fallen just short when finishing second to Mixto (Good Magic) in a thrilling finish to last year's Pacific Classic.

Meanwhile, Subsanador (Fortify) received a definitive green light from trainer Richard Mandella following an eye-catching work over Hipódromo Del MarHacer clic para abrir el panel lateral y obtener más información's main track on Thursday.

The Argentine-bred recorded five furlongs in 58s80/100, the fastest of 42 recorded works at the distance that morning. The drill built upon a previous between-races workout the week prior, fully convincing Mandella to target the Pacific Classic.

"We knew he was quite good," commented Mott. "He has obviously progressed as time went on. Every time we asked him, he did a little bit more. His last run was extremely good, so now we'll see."

The primary question mark surrounds the 1 1/4-mile distance, as his Monmouth triumph came over 1 1/8 miles, though Mott expressed little concern over the extra furlong.

Also confirmed is Japanese contender Finger (Gun Runner), who completed his final breeze at the Miho Training Center before shipping across the Pacific.
