Fully Subscribed took a giant leap forward and secured his spot in the Breeders’ Cup

A maternal granddaughter of Candy Ride, the daughter of Tiz the Law crushed her rivals by 9 3/4 lengths in the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, securing her first top-level victory and locking in a berth for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1)
SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York (Special for Turf Diario).— Fully Subscribed had been knocking on the door of major triumphs for a long time, and she finally knocked it down. And in what style. The Klaravich Stables colorbearer delivered a formidable performance to capture the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1-1,800 m, $500,000), defeating Scottish Lassie (McKinzie) by a decisive 9 3/4 lengths.
The victory yielded a double reward for the daughter of Tiz the Law, as in addition to securing the first G1 win of her career, she locked up a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) this coming October at Keeneland via the Win and You’re In challenge series.
The result also adds a major contender to a division anchored by Nitrogen (Medaglia D'Oro), the very mare who defeated Fully Subscribed by more than 12 lengths in the Ogden Phipps (G1) at Saratoga back in June. Since then, however, the Chad Brown trainee has done nothing but improve.
She first captured the Shuvee Stakes (G2) on July 24, running down Scottish Lassie late to win by half a length. She renewed rivalries with that opponent here, but the outcome was vastly different—this time, there was no suspense.
Sent off as the 4-5 favorite, Fully Subscribed broke cleanly from post 2, and Flavien Prat quickly established the ideal position, tracking third along the rail while Snowyte (Good Magic) set the tempo with Scottish Lassie pressing closely.
Snowyte posted early fractions of 24s11/100 for the opening quarter-mile and 47s64/100 for the half-mile, with Pratpatiently saving ground throughout.
“I had a great trip. She broke well, I was able to save ground the whole way, and then she gave me a great response. It’s always an advantage when you can stay on the inside,” the jockey explained.
Approaching the 600-meter mark, Prat asked for more and received an immediate response. He angled Fully Subscribed to the outside and set his sights on Scottish Lassie, who had put away Snowyte to launch her bid for another G1 win at Saratoga.
The runner-up’s hopes were short-lived. Fully Subscribed ranges up effortlessly, and after receiving a couple of right-handed reminders, she drew away at will. The final stages were a procession, as she crossed the finish line 9 3/4 lengths clear in a time of 1m49s23/100.
“It was very gratifying. She’s always trained like a G1 mare,” said Brown, who secured his second Personal Ensign in three years following Raging Sea’s (Curlin) victory in 2024. “Earlier in the season she came up a bit short, but she’s improved steadily and consistently. She’s a high-quality mare, and today she was able to show what she’s truly capable of.”
Brown drew parallels between Fully Subscribed and Raging Sea. Both were defeated in the Ogden Phipps before using the Shuvee as a launching pad to achieve the signature victory of their campaigns. Consistency is another shared trait: Fully Subscribed has never finished worse than third in her nine career starts, five of which were victories.
Scottish Lassie held second by half a length over Nerazurri (Protonico), while Snowyte finished fourth ahead of Margie’s Intention (Honor A.P.) and Speed Shopper (Quality Road).
Bred by Payson Stud and purchased for $300,000 at the 2024 OBS April sale, Fully Subscribed is by Tiz the Law out of Sweetbaby, by Argentine star Candy Ride, and her second dam is the notable Rutherienne (Pulpit), a G1 winner and victor in seven other graded stakes.
Her next step remains undecided. Brown is considering either the Beldame Stakes (G2) on September 25 at Belmont Park or the Spinster Stakes (G1) on October 4 at Keeneland, home to the Breeders’ Cup itself.
“We’ll take a look at how the division shakes out, who runs where, and how the various fields come together,” the trainer noted.
What is beyond doubt is that Fully Subscribed heads into the championship stretch of the season as a far more dangerous foe than the one Nitrogen defeated back in June.
In the Personal Ensign, she simply flew.
