LIMA, Perú (Special for Turf Diario).- Argentine-bred Furioso Hit (Hit It a Bomb) made the most of every opportunity presented to him in Saturday’s Clásico Coronel Leoncio Prado (1400m, turf) at Monterrico, finally earning the black-type victory that had eluded him despite several promising efforts. The 4-year-old grandson of Honour and Glory led every step of the way to defeat a field that included 2024 Derby winner and heavy favorite Magic Power (Power World), who was returning to the turf.

The pre-race scratch of U.S.-bred Sunshine Danny (Creative Cause) left Furioso Hit as the lone speed in the race—a key tactical advantage that his team was keen to capitalize on.

Things went further in his favor when Magic Power broke slowly and trailed the field by five lengths shortly after the start. That miscue allowed Furioso Hit, under Bragni Ylachoque, to control the pace and dictate terms throughout.

The Argentine jockey executed a perfect front-running ride, managing his mount’s energy efficiently. Fellow Argentine El Poniente (Il Campione) attempted to close in but couldn’t make much of a dent in the leader’s advantage.

Turning for home, Furioso Hit kicked clear, only to face a late and serious challenge from the Canadian-bred Canoso(Fed Biz), who found room along the rail and began to cut into the margin. But the pacesetter had enough in reserve to fend him off, prevailing by a determined half-length. Magic Power, unable to recover from his troubled start, finished a disappointing third.

A graduate of Haras FirmamentoFurioso Hit became the first stakes winner in Peru for Hit It a Bomb. He was saddled by Sabino Arias on behalf of Stud Firmamento – Ju Ya, and stopped the clock in 1:22.38 for 1400 meters.

Out of the stakes-placed Curiosa GloryFurioso Hit is a half-brother to G2 and G3-placed Curioso Master(Mastercraftsman), as well as the consistent winners Camp Glory (Campanologist) and Curiosa Hit (Hit It a Bomb). He hails from one of Haras Firmamento’s cornerstone female lines, tracing back to the influential Mucura (Hot Dust) through the outstanding Kalcura (Kaljerry).
