The 8-5 morning-line choice returns to Keeneland looking for a defining win toward the Kentucky Derby, leading a deep field under a questionable weather forecast

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Special to Turf Diario)— The road to the Kentucky Derby (G1) enters its decisive phase this Saturday with one of its most storied and demanding fixtures: the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland. Further Ado arrives as the 8-5 favorite in a field that promises fireworks, looking to punch his ticket to Churchill Downs.
The son of Gun Runner, trained by Brad Cox, is already a proven commodity on the Lexington stage. Last year at this oval, he dominated a maiden special weight field by 20 lengths in his first start around two turns—a performance that still resonates. He later confirmed that quality by winning the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs.
In his lone start as a 3-year-old, he finished second in the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) behind The Puma (Essential Quality) following a brief layoff. "He’s doing very well; we feel he’s taken a step forward since Tampa," said Cox, who won this race in 2021 with Essential Quality. "He likes Keeneland, and we are excited about this Grade 1 opportunity."
The challenge is steep. Chief among his rivals is Class President (Uncle Mo), recent winner of the Rebel Stakes (G2). Trained by Todd Pletcher, he will be ridden by John Velazquez. The legendary duo currently sits at 499 stakes wins together and will look to hit the 500-mark in one of the season's biggest spots. Pletcher is a four-time Blue Grasswinner, most recently with Tapit Trice in 2023.
Also on the rise is Reagan’s Honor (Honor A. P.), stepping up to elite company after two consecutive wins at Fair Grounds, where he flirted with the 1 1/16-mile track record. With José Ortiz back aboard, he is expected to be a major factor from the start. The deep field is rounded out by stakes-experienced runners Talkin (Good Magic), Great White(Volatile), Creole Chrome (Volatile), and Ottinho (Quality Road), along with longshots Ocelli (Connect) and Moonstrocity (Tiz the Law).
Contested at nine furlongs with a $1,250,000 purse, the Blue Grass offers 100 qualifying points to the winner, virtually guaranteeing a spot in the starting gate on the first Saturday in May.
