In a performance for the ages, Further Ado demolished the Blue Grass (G1) field by 11 lengths, stamping himself as a major force for the first Saturday in May

LEXINGTON, KY (Special to Turf Diario)— Horse racing is often described as an emotional rollercoaster, and for the powerhouse Spendthrift Farm, Saturday’s Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland provided the ultimate ascent. Following the heartbreaking defection of stable star Ted Noffey (Into Mischief) due to injury, Further Ado stepped into the void to deliver a statement victory, romping by 11 lengths and establishing himself as a formidable Kentucky Derby (G1) contender.
Trained by Brad Cox, the son of Gun Runner stopped the clock in 1:49.58—the fastest edition of the race since Essential Quality. "I wish the Kentucky Derby were run right here," Cox joked, noting the colt's affinity for the Lexington surface. However, Cox remains confident heading to Louisville, pointing out that Further Ado already has a win over the Churchill Downs strip and trains there regularly.
The win secures Further Ado’s eventual place on the Spendthrift stallion roster, a primary goal for general manager Ned Toffey. The focus now shifts to jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., who must choose between the Spendthrift standout and Pletcher’s top prospect, Renegade (Into Mischief). With 100 points in the bag and the largest winning margin in the Blue Grass in two decades, Further Ado heads to the first Saturday in May as the horse they all have to fear.
