With just a few days remaining until entries close, the Hipódromo de San Isidro has announced the prize money for the country's patriotic race and for the Gran Premio de Potrancas (G1) and Gran Premio Gran Criterium (G1)

There was a sense of letdown following the announcement of the prize money for the upcoming Gran Premio 25 de Mayo (G1, 2400m, turf), to be run at the Hipódromo de San Isidro, with the event serving as the main feature for older horses on the Jockey Club's grass circuit outside of the G1 Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini.
The patriotic race will award $35,000,000 pesos to the winner, representing only a 40% increase over the $25,000,000collected by the ill-fated Full Keid (Full Mast) when victorious in the 2024 renewal. Notably, inflation over the same period has exceeded 100%, and after deductions, the amount that actually reaches the owner is significantly reduced. The announcement also came just days before entries close this coming Monday. To put things in perspective, the purse is nearly half of what Need You Tonight (Hat Ninja) earned for his win in the G1 Gran Premio República Argentina last week at Palermo.
A further $35,000,000 pesos will be distributed among runners finishing second through eighth in the Gran Premio 25 de Mayo as follows: $12,250,000 to the runner-up, $7,000,000 for third, $4,550,000 for fourth, $3,850,000 for fifth, $3,150,000 for sixth, $2,450,000 for seventh, and $1,750,000 for eighth.
The total entry fee for the race is $1,400,000 pesos, with $140,000 due at the time of nomination and the remainder payable upon final confirmation, subject to the completion of a negative pre-race drug test.
As for the G1 Gran Premio Gran Criterium and G1 Gran Premio de Potrancas—both run over 1600 meters on turf for the current juvenile generation—the winner’s prize has been set at $25,000,000 pesos, up from $15,400,000 last year.
The remainder of the prize pool will be distributed as follows: $8,750,000 to second, $5,000,000 to third, $3,250,000 to fourth, $2,750,000 to fifth, $2,250,000 to sixth, $1,750,000 to seventh, and $1,250,000 to eighth. Both races will also feature a $750,000 bonus under the Estrellas Plus program.
Entry for each juvenile G1 will cost $1,000,000 pesos, with $100,000 payable at nomination and the remaining $900,000due at final confirmation.
