It was a "fox hunt" (as the old-time turf writers would say) in the Clásico Intendente Melchor Posse (L - 1,200m, firm turf), the other feature race on Sunday's card at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo. The colt Garboso Frank broke on top and never let himself be caught, taking another step in his rising campaign within the turn-sprint division while showing an enviable ability to adapt to different tracks and surfaces.

A previous winner on the local dirt, as well as at La Plata and even Gualeguay in Entre Ríos, the son of Gidu lived up to his pedigree in his first start on the grass. His victory extended a formidable winning streak for the team of Stud Pauli, trainer Marcelo Sueldo, and jockey Gonzalo Borda.

It was a brave performance by the bay, who was never given much breathing room under the constant pressure applied by the much more experienced Beauty Sea (Seahenge).

Once in the homestretch, Borda played it to the limit with Garboso Frank, keeping him glued to his rival without interference, but applying pressure from the front. In doing so, he maintained a steady rhythm and ultimately drew away to win by 1 1/2 lengths, with the rest of the field far back. The final time was 1m10s2/100, following fractions of 23s88/100 and 45s93/100.

Garboso Frank was bred by Haras Gran Muñeca and is out of Garúa Key (Key Deputy), a sister to the graded stakes winner Ultima Gota Cat (Easing Along) and the excellent Tsunami Key (Key Deputy). This places him in the highly successful pedigree of Sugary (World Cup), a foundation line for Haras El Alfalfar.
