MIDWAY, Kentucky (Special to Turf Diario).- Golden Tempo already has his future at stud guaranteed. Just weeks after his historic victory in the Kentucky Derby (G1), it was confirmed that the son of Curlin will enter stud at Lane’s End Farm once his racing career comes to an end.

The news further strengthens the colt’s enormous commercial appeal, not only because of his racetrack accomplishments but also due to his belonging to one of the deepest and most traditional maternal families in American breeding.

Winner of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs over Renegade (Into Mischief), Golden Tempo has so far compiled a record of three wins and two third-place finishes from five starts, along with earnings of US$3,433,000.

Before his breakout performance in Louisville, he had already displayed considerable talent by winning the Lecomte Stakes (G3) and a maiden special weight at Fair Grounds, in addition to finishing in the money in both the Risen Star Stakes (G2) and the Louisiana Derby (G2).

His Derby triumph also carried historic significance for trainer Cherie DeVaux, who became the first woman ever to win America’s most famous race.

“Golden Tempo is the direct result of generations of selective breeding within our family,” said Daisy Phipps Pulito. “The partnership with St. Elias Stable ultimately culminated in a historic Kentucky Derby victory, something that is deeply gratifying on so many levels.”

His pedigree is simply dazzling.

In addition to being a son of Curlin—one of America’s premier modern stallions and sire of 26 Grade/Group 1 winners and multiple champions—Golden Tempo is out of stakes winner Carrumba, a daughter of Bernardini and a fifth-generation homebred for the Phipps family.

Within the first four generations of his pedigree also appear seven additional Group 1 winners, including champion Heavenly Prize (Seeking the Gold), Dancing Forever (Rahy), Dancing Spree (Nijinsky), Good Reward (Storm Cat), Pure Prize (Storm Cat), and Fantastic Find (Mr. Prospector), among other distinguished names.

Lane’s End officials were especially enthusiastic about the colt’s future arrival.

“Golden Tempo fits perfectly within the classic profile that has always defined Lane’s End,” commented Bill Farish, general manager of the farm.

“He possesses an extraordinarily strong genetic foundation, with a family filled with producers and Group 1 winners, while also being a son of one of the best stallions in the world.”

For now, it remains unconfirmed whether Golden Tempo will continue racing during 2027, though his immediate schedule is already set.

After bypassing the Preakness Stakes (G1), the Derby winner is now pointing directly toward the Belmont Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, where he could once again clash with Renegade and several of the top 3-year-olds of the season.

Meanwhile, the stallion market is already preparing to welcome a new heir to Curlin with credentials more than sufficient to become one of the major names of the future.
