LA PLATA – That Gonzalo Borda is one of the latest great rising stars among Argentine jockeys is no news. What is also clear is that, had it not been for a couple of serious accidents, he would likely be even more firmly established by now.

Calm and intelligent, his future looks very bright, and in 2025, he might very well get the breakthrough he needs. On his way to achieving that, he’s already at the top of the La Plata jockey standings, ahead of Jorge Peralta, the defending champion, and locals Walter Aguirre and Daniel E. Arias, who have also started strong.

The jockey from Corrientes solidified his lead on Thursday, claiming a celebrated double—teaming up with Juan Pablo E. Díaz and Marcelo Sueldo. The double began in the opening race, steering Calixta Texana (Nashville Texan), who won at the age of four after previously being a maiden, and concluded with a comfortable victory aboard the promising colt Takeshi Frank in the Clásico Agustín B. Gambier (G3). With this victory, the son of Gidu maintained his position as the top 2-year-old male in competition at the southern track.

After the trophy presentation, Borda was interviewed by Daniel Sinegub for the local closed-circuit television network. He shared his thoughts, much less at ease than he appears during the competition: “It was a bit of a fast race. He has speed, and that's why he broke well and got to the front. We believe he’s good. He’s useful, and the time he lost to The Great Cash (The Great Day) in the Congreve (L) was due to the fact that he debuted early and hadn’t had enough races.”

He then added an important point that only highlights the achievement of Takeshi Frank, who is trained at Haras Gran Muñeca and owned by Stud Pauli: “I’m happy and very thankful to the team that works every day. He wasn’t at his best this time, but still, it was enough. He showed his ability and that he’ll be very useful in the future. I only used the whip to secure him, but once he was in the clear, he ran well.”

“I want to congratulate all the guys from the stud, the trainer, the foreman, and the owner, who make these victories possible,” he concluded, with humility.

Takeshi Frank has the look of a very good colt, and jockey Gonzalo Borda seems to be the ideal partner in his journey toward the major races ahead. Borda’s guidance may prove crucial in the development of this generational leader, especially as he looks toward longer distances.
