Acento Final will seek to defend his title against rivals of immense quality, including Honest Boy, Neat Colt,Gordianus, and Out of the Blue. The marquee prep on Saturday at San Isidro will gather four Grade 1 winners and put a total purse of 70 million pesos on the line

The countdown toward the Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini (G1) will hit a fundamental landmark next Saturday at Hipódromo de San Isidro with the running of the Gran Premio Copa de Oro - Alfredo Lalor (G1-2400m, turf),which has confirmed 12 star-studded runners. There were no scratches from the original entry list, and best of all, several of the premier stayers of the moment will line up in a race that could begin to shape much of the picture for December's ultimate showdown.

Four Grade 1 winners, as many names with outstanding stakes credentials, and a mixture of experience and youth will give shape to a high-caliber contest in which Acento Final (Treasure Beach) will attempt to repeat his 2025 triumph, though he will encounter fierce opposition.

The representative of Stud Macul will have the opportunity to defend his crown following that memorable victory 12 months ago, when he bested Vota Bien (Hi Happy) by half a neck, relying on the tremendous grit that has defined his career.

A winner of both the Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1) and the Gran Premio General San Martín (G1), Acento Finalpossesses more than enough pedigree to play a leading role. His latest outing came in July, when he finished second by just a head to Out of the Blue (Brz-Drosselmeyer) in the Clásico Chacabuco (G2) over 2,400 meters on the Palermodirt. He now returns to the turf course that hosted his greatest triumphs, saddled by Cristian Villabona and once again with Gustavo Calvente in the irons.

One of his main rivals will be Honest Boy (Heliostatic), who comes off a return to winning ways in the Clásico Yatasto (G3) over 2,400 meters, where he defeated Cazador de Areco (Long Island Sound) by a head. The pupil of Carlos Daniel Etchechoury, winner of the 2025 Gran Premio 25 de Mayo (G1), retains all his ability to compete against top company and arrives in peak form, with Eduardo Ortega Pavón confirmed to ride.

Indeed, Cazador de Areco looms as another contender with serious ambitions. The son of Long Island Sound comes off finishing a whisker behind Honest Boy in the Yatasto, having previously chased home Equal Mostaza (Equal Stripes) in the Gran Premio General San Martín (G1). His consistency at this level suggests he could finally secure the defining victory of his career. Martín Valle will be aboard.

The field also includes Neat Colt (Treasure Beach), one of the major revelations of the season when he captured the Gran Premio Estrellas Classic (G1) over 2,000 meters on the San Isidro turf. The representative of Stud Tramo 20will look to recapture the form that allowed him to defeat several of the division's top exponents, following a fifth-place finish in the San Martín and a fourth in the Yatasto. Juan Cruz Villagra will be back in the saddle.

Another heavyweight in the lineup is Gordianus (Señor Candy), winner of the 2025 Gran Premio Nacional (G1),who will try to translate to the turf the ability that elevated him to one of the leading figures of his generation. The defender of Stud El Olimpo, trained by Luis Sánchez, will have Cristian Velázquez in the irons as he faces a tough test against surface specialists.

Out of the Blue, meanwhile, enters with compelling credentials. The Brazilian-bred son of Drosselmeyer proved his staying capabilities when winning the Clásico Chacabuco (G2) over Acento Final, and also holds victories in the Clásico Porteño (G3) and the Clásico Tresiete (L). Racing for Stud Macondo under the care of Carlos Daniel Etchechoury, he will be ridden by Adrián Giannetti in pursuit of his maiden Grade 1 victory.

Equal Mostaza deserves special consideration. The son of Equal Stripes, also trained by Etchechoury, boasts wins in the Clásico Comparación (G2), Clásico General Pueyrredón (G3), and Clásico Cocles (L), along with multiple placings in top-tier events. Distance is no obstacle for him, and with Juan Carlos Noriega confirmed, he could prove a dangerous opponent.

Also lining up is Don Logrado (Fortify), winner of the Clásico Cocles (L) and the Clásico General Pueyrredón (G3), the latter over a demanding 3,000 meters. His latest outing in the Yatasto fell below expectations, but he possesses enough class to bounce back.

Curious Song (Sixties Song), runner-up to Magnum Fifth (Daniel Boone) in the Gran Premio 25 de Mayo (G1), is another looking to put a disappointing effort in the Yatasto behind him. Full Keynote (Full Mast), with solid placings in group company, Señor Sandro (Cityscape), second in the 2025 Gran Premio Jockey Club (G1), and Orpen Again(Seek Again), a four-time winner, round out a stellar field.

An intriguing note is the presence of six runners conditioned by Carlos Daniel Etchechoury: Cazador de Areco, Don Logrado, Equal Mostaza, Honest Boy, Out of the Blue, and Señor Sandro. A true armada looking to capture one of the most prestigious fixtures on the calendar.

The Copa de Oro will distribute 70 million pesos in total stakes money, with 35 million set aside for the winner, sharing top billing with the Gran Premio Enrique Acebal (G1-2000m) for 3-year-old fillies, which features a purse of 100 million pesos.

Beyond the prize money, however, the stakes are much higher. In a division striving to establish clear leadership, the Copa de Oro could deliver decisive answers ahead of the Pellegrini. Acento Final has the chance to defend his crown; Honest Boy, to confirm his resurgence; Neat Colt and Gordianus, to return to the summit; and the rest, to stake their claim on a stage that promises an enthralling contest.

San Isidro will host a feature worthy of its history, and the Pellegrini suddenly feels a whole lot closer.
