La Plata’s premier festival on November 19 drew 17 entries for its centerpiece feature, led by defending champion The Gladiator's Hat alongside a compelling lineup of stayers. Four additional stakes features round out a stellar program of major racing action

LA PLATA.— El Bosque has begun to dress for the occasion. Though November 19 remains on the horizon, the initial entry list for the Gran Premio Dardo Rocha (G1-2400m, dirt) promises an edition capable of restoring full splendor to the most anticipated fixture on the local calendar. A total of 17 entries—featuring Group 1 winners, established route specialists, and rising sophomores—will chase a staggering winner's purse of 150 million pesos, a figure set to place La Plata squarely at the center of the national stage.

Nassau (Forge) arrives intent on playing his main card here. Trained by the Maldotti stable, he enters fresh off a victory in Palermo's Clásico Vicente L. Casares (G3) over 2500 meters and returns to a surface where he has staged memorable duels. Chief among those rivalries is his history with Sono Perfetto (Tetaze), who rediscovered his best form by capturing the Clásico OSAF (G3) over 2200 meters, leaving Elegir Bien (Fortify) 3 lengths behind in second.

Elegir Bien previously captured the Clásico General Belgrano (G2) at Palermo over Nassau, alongside multiple signature victories throughout La Plata's 3-year-old series. Should both clarify their final entries, racegoers can count on a premier rivalry on display.

Amuni (Tetaze) adds another layer to that dynamic. He previously defeated both Nassau and Sono Perfetto in the Clásico Stud Book Argentino (L) before failing to deliver in the OSAF. His potential presence injects intriguing uncertainty into the lineup: which version of Amuni will step out of the gates?

The defending champion has no intention of surrendering his crown easily. The Gladiator's Hat (Hat Ninja) left a lasting mark twelve months ago when he dominated the Dardo Rocha by 7 lengths. He subsequently finished second in the Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini (G1), placed third in the Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1) at Monterrico, and scored a resounding victory in the Gran Premio General San Martín (G1) on the Palermo turf. Boasting elite class and proven track affinity, he brings every argument needed to dream of a double.

Fresh blood is also making a push for top honours. Teobaldo (Uncle Chuck) recently closed out the La Platasophomore series with a 6-length victory in the Clásico Provincia de Buenos Aires (G3), seeking to capitalize on his 53-kilo weight assignment against older horses. Bringing a different set of credentials is Thor Medina (Mootasadir),winner of the Gran Premio Miguel A. Martínez de Hoz (G1), who boasts international experience and recently captured the Gran Premio Batalla de Tucumán. His challenge will be transferring that class to the 2400-meter dirt layout of El Bosque.

The entries further include Crazy Talent (Equal Talent), winner of the 2025 Gran Premio de Honor (G1) and always dangerous when establishing his rhythm, as well as Vota Bien (Hi Happy), who enters off a victory via disqualification in the Clásico Carlos Gardel (L) following a runner-up finish in the Gran Premio República Argentina (G1).Seasoned campaigner El Darwin (Il Campione), Adorado Rim (Remote), and Brazilian-bred Oh l'Amour(Drosselmeyer) expand the depth of contention alongside Elegir Bien.

Yet the Dardo Rocha will not stand alone. The Clásico Ciudad de La Plata (G2-1200m) attracted a massive entry of 36 sprinters, led by notable sophomores Shiawase (Lucullan) and Cádiz (Strategos). The Clásico Joaquín V. González (G2-1600m) drew 23 milers, including defending champion Storm Sound (Hi Happy), Autorretrato(Angiolo), Preston Boss (Holy Boss), Chaplin (Nicholas), El Ernesto (Señor Candy), El Gazpacho (Bodemeister),El Volka (Vekoma), Talented Hit (Hit It a Bomb), and Sabiyano (Fortify).

The fillies and mares mile, the Clásico Marcos Levalle (G2), received 16 nominees, headlined by recent Clásico Inés Nistel winner Amonet (Mask), alongside proven campaigner Blessed Shine (Honour Devil), End of Spring (Il Campione), Gota Clara Sos (Made You Look), and Ser Lady Legs (Daddy Long Legs).

Finally, the Clásico Asociación Cooperativa de Criadores de Caballos de Sangre Pura de Carrera (L-1100m)gathered 21 entries, topped by double G1 winner Gran Gotera (Il Mercato).

The stage is set for a landmark festival. However, while the 160-million-peso winner's purse for the Dardo Rocha and the 50 million pesos allocated to the Joaquín V. González winner signal major investment at the top, they also draw sharp contrast with the venue's conditional purse structure, where local purses remain significantly depressed. An exceptional meeting should not obscure the daily financial needs of horsemen sustaining the track year-round.

Final confirmations remain pending, which could alter the initial picture. Yet the early indications are clear: high-profile entries, intersecting rivalries, redemption arcs, emerging youth, and a returning champion set the stage. On November 19, El Bosque aims to put its finest face forward.
