Gun Runner continues to make history and will headline Three Chimneys Farm’s stallion roster for the 2027 breeding season

The star stallion of the American stud farm will command a private fee following an extraordinary season, highlighted by 25 horses sold for seven-figure prices and four new G1 winners. Ottinho, his half-brother, will join the roster at an introductory fee of $7,500

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Special for Turf Diario).— Gun Runner continues to push the boundaries of the thoroughbred industry. Established as one of the most influential stallions in the world, the son of Argentine champion Candy Ride will once again headline Three Chimneys Farm's roster for the 2027 breeding season under a private fee that reflects his extraordinary standing on both the racetrack and in the auction ring.
The Kentucky nursery announced its 2027 stallion roster and fee schedule on Wednesday, October 28, featuring key updates and the addition of Ottinho, a half-brother to Gun Runner.
The 2017 U.S. Horse of the Year and Hall of Fame inductee continues to accumulate statistics that place him in a tier of his own.
According to Three Chimneys Farm, in 2026 Gun Runner became the first stallion in history to sire 25 yearlings sold for $1 million or more at public auction in a single season.
That figure accounts for approximately one-third of all his one-year-olds offered commercially—a truly remarkable ratio.
Highlighting those results were 10 seven-figure yearlings at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale and another 12 in Book 1 of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, two of the most demanding commercial venues on the planet.
However, the phenomenon is not limited to auction ring fireworks. On the track, Gun Runner added four new G1 winners to his resume in 2026: Always a Runner, winner of the Kentucky Oaks (G1); Leading Change, victorious in the Travers Stakes (G1); Further Ado, triumphant in the Blue Grass Stakes (G1); and My Gun's Loaded, who captured the Alabama Stakes (G1).
With those victories, his tally reached 16 individual G1 winners, reaffirming a genetic influence that blends speed, stamina, and a remarkable ability to pass along quality.
“We are thrilled with the continued success of Gun Runner, both on the racetrack and in the sales ring. We also look forward to showcasing the first foals by Gun Pilot and Newgate this November, and we are excited to add Ottinho, a half-brother to Gun Runner, to our roster,” expressed Rebecca Nicholson, director of stallion nominations for Three Chimneys Farm.
Ottinho, the New Addition
One of the headline additions in the announcement is the arrival of Ottinho, a son of Quality Road and half-brother to Gun Runner.
The 3-year-old colt earned G1 placings and qualified for the Kentucky Derby (G1) after finishing second in the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland.
His inclusion offers breeders access to one of the most prestigious female families in the American Stud Book at an introductory fee of $7,500.
Another prominent name on the roster is Volatile, a G1 winner by Violence, whose 2027 fee will be announced following the Breeders' Cup.
The stallion will feature key runners this Saturday at Keeneland, including T O Elvis, a contender in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1), and Foie Gras, taking part in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1).
His progeny also yielded strong commercial results during 2026, with 2-year-olds selling for up to $650,000 and yearlings fetching up to $525,000.
On the track, he boasts eight stakes winners during the current season, including Three Chimneys Farm homebred Igniter, who captured the Ellis Park Derby by four lengths.
Gun Pilot, another son of Gun Runner and winner of the 2024 Churchill Downs Stakes (G1), will enter his third season at stud at a fee of $12,500. His first weanlings have already generated commercial interest, selling for $105,000 and $100,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Fall Mixed Sale.
Meanwhile, Newgate, a son of Into Mischief who commanded $850,000 as a yearling and won the 2024 Santa Anita Handicap (G1), will stand for $10,000.
Finally, G1 winner Funtastic (More Than Ready) will remain at $5,000. His top progeny includes G2 winner First Peace and G3 winner Funtastic Again.
Three Chimneys Farm will open its doors to breeders from November 2 to November 8, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.daily, for stallion inspections.
