Haras El Santo, breeder of the brilliant Girona Fever, begins its dispersal in Uruguay

The farm will sell all its broodmares this Wednesday through an online format, including champions Algecira Fever, Electrónica, and Something Dixie, the dam of the outstanding sprinter

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Special to Thoroughbred Daily News) – With great anticipation and high expectations, the dispersal of the successful Haras El Santo is set to take place, marking the sale of one of Uruguay’s most prominent breeding operations. The farm, known for producing numerous top-class runners in recent years—including the iconic Girona Fever (Texas Fever)—will be selling its entire stock in a two-day online auction.
The sale, organized by Walter H. Abelenda Negocios Rurales in collaboration with Pablo Núñez Remates, will begin this Wednesday with the broodmares, while Thursday’s session will feature the 2024 foal crop. The virtual auction is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. local time.
A total of 57 broodmares will be offered during the first session, featuring daughters of elite sires such as Hard Spun(Danzig), Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie), Fortify (Distorted Humor), Drosselmeyer (Distorted Humor), Ghostzapper(Awesome Again), Catcher In the Rye (Danehill), Constitution (Tapit), Harlan’s Holiday (Harlan), and Unbridled’s Song (Unbridled). Many of them are in foal to Texas Fever (Victory Gallop), Sloane Avenue (Candy Ride), and Sonic Mule (Distorted Humor).
The 2022 Breeder of the Year will conduct the sale in 12-dollar installments. At present, the top pre-sale bid belongs to the outstanding Algecira Fever (Texas Fever), at $2,700. The 2019 Champion 3-Year-Old Filly, winner of the Gran Premio Selección (G1), Polla de Potrancas (G1), Estímulo (G2), and Campeones Distaff, is currently in foal to Sloane Avenue, expecting her fourth foal early in the season.
Another standout broodmare in the catalog is Electrónica (Texas Fever), Champion 2- and 3-Year-Old Filly of 2018 and winner of the Gran Premio Polla de Potrancas (G1), Clásico Sarandí (G3), Clásico Treinta y Tres Orientales (L), and Campeones Juvenile Fillies. A full sister to Electra Fever, she is also part of the dispersal and is in foal to Sloane Avenue, with a last service date of August 1.
One of the true gems of the sale is Something Dixie (Dixie Union), the dam of the brilliant Girona Fever, as well as Dog Valiente (G3) (Teeth of the Dog) and the stakes winner Filadelfia Fever (Texas Fever). At 21 years old, she is carrying a full sibling to the champion, with a last service date of October 25.
Other notable broodmares in the dispersal include classic winners Antwerpen (Dancer Man), Curiosa de Mer (First American), Barceloneta (Texas Fever), Indiana Giant (Giant Oak), French Avenue (Sloane Avenue), Goodnight Moon (Forestry), La Maestranza (Texas Fever), and Queen Boudica (Ecclesiastic).
Among the accomplished producers set to go under the hammer are Be My Bride (Successful Appeal), Bisca Rye(Catcher In the Rye), Electricity (Holzmeister), It Figures (Wild Event), Jewel of France (Cipayo), Moonskipper(Stephen Got Even), Passionbabypassion (Unbridled's Song), Perfect Quality (Elusive Quality), Princess Daisy(Touch Gold), Qualidade Máxima (Nedawi), and Queen OK (Tiago).
