Haras Tradición offers future prospects in online auction from the heart of Santa Fe

The operation led by Raúl Berteros will hold its fifth major sale this Friday in Arrufó, featuring an offering headlined by 18 homebred 2-year-olds from the 2024 crop; backed by a select broodmare band, significant genetic investment, and full family support, the project is establishing itself among the most promising young breeding ventures in Argentine racing

In times when sustaining a long-term investment represents a daunting challenge, the growth of Haras Tradicióncarries special value. The operation led by Raúl Berteros, supported at every step by his family, will open its doors once again this Friday to host its fifth major Thoroughbred sale, bringing to market a substantial portion of the work accomplished since its founding in late 2017.

Located on National Route 39 in Arrufó, San Cristóbal department, the Santa Fe farm made a clear decision from the outset: to operate with a limited number of mares and aim for excellence. The formula was to invest heavily, acquire broodmares from proven stakes-producing families, and secure access—through shares or seasons—to some of the premier stallions in the country.

It is not about breeding for quantity, but rather about selection—carefully planning each mating and giving every horse the necessary time, space, and individual attention. That philosophy continues to drive Tradición, which in just nine years has established its name and now seeks to take another leap forward.

Friday's catalog clearly reflects that ambition. The farm's own offering features 18 yearlings from the 2024 crop—11 colts and 7 fillies—sired by established stallions alongside exciting young prospects. The roster includes Pneumatic(Uncle Mo), Satono Flag (Deep Impact), Daddy Long Legs (Scat Daddy), Angiolo (Grand Reward), Uncle Chuck(Uncle Mo), Safety Check (Dubawi), Touareg (Easing Along), Cosmic Trigger (Lizard Island), Strategos(Zensational), Lizard Island (Danehill Dancer), Que Vida Buena (Bernstein), and Luthier Blues (Le Blues).

The variety also highlights a broad breeding approach, offering speed, precocity, stamina, and crosses with international potential. Notable lots include sons of Satono Flag, a heir to Deep Impact out of Balada Sale (Not for Sale) whose first Argentine crop was born in 2024; a descendant of Uncle Chuck, a son of Uncle Mo and half-brother to influential sire Maclean’s Music (Distorted Humor); and a colt by Pneumatic, also representing the potent Uncle Mo line.

Standout lots include Avalado, by Satono Flag out of Tripping, whose third dam is Potrinner (Potrillazo), winner of the 1000 Guineas (G1) and full sister to legendary champions Potrizaris, Potridee, and Potrichal. Also featured is Satono, another colt by the Japanese sire, this one out of a mare by John F Kennedy.

Muy Argentino, by Pneumatic, is out of a maiden-winning Southern Halo mare, while Perdón Doctor, by Daddy Long Legs, boasts a strong American female family. The male offering also highlights Angiotage and Relojiado, both by Angiolo; Uncle Joy, by Uncle Chuck; Sowtime, by Safety Check; sons of Touareg in Aki Voy—the second foal out of stakes winner Aki Mirame (Freud)—and Este Sí; and Luthier Honour (Luthier Blues), a half-brother to stakes winner Safety Honour (Safety Check).

The fillies provide another core of immense interest. A 50 percent interest will be offered in Mami Chula, by Cosmic Trigger out of stakes winner Qué Chula (Endorsement), and Comparsa Rusa, by Strategos, with the buyer earning the right to select the trainer in both instances. The consignment is completed by Toda la Verdad, by Cosmic Trigger; Mística Popular, by Lizard Island; Belleza Salvaje and Que Vida Re Buena, both by Que Vida Buena; and Viveza Moral, by Safety Check.

Guest consignors include Haras El Chañar, Haras La Numancia, and Haras El Colorado. The first two will offer the fillies Top Rea, by Pneumatic, and Way Up High, by Remote (Dansili), while El Colorado will present the broodmares Hurriedly Beach (Treasure Beach), in foal to Cyclone Mischief (Into Mischief), and Party Doll (Star Runner).

The event will begin at 5:00 PM with the parade of horses. Starting at 7:00 PM, guests will enjoy catering and live folklore performances, leading up to the main auction at 9:00 PM, which features 11-installment financing terms.

It promises to be a landmark evening for Raúl Berteros and his family—as well as a fresh opportunity to witness the rise of one of the young farms that has invested most aggressively in the industry. Tradición remains a boutique operation by design, but it thinks and executes on a grand scale. This Friday in Arrufó, that vision will once again take center stage before the market.
