That little metronome known as El Gazpacho is putting the finishing touches on a season worthy of a frame. Heart, soundness, consistency—many virtues converge in the Stud La Frontera runner, who delivered one of the best performances of his campaign Saturday over San Isidro’s heavy turf in the Clásico Urbano de Iriondo (L, 1400m).

Racing roughly once a month, the son of Bodemeister has built a reputation as a reliable presence—always capable of landing a blow, and even in defeat, always running well. In fact, he has not finished worse than fifth at any point this year, competing exclusively at the upper levels.

His late-running style paid dividends once again, just as it did in the Clásico Mesa del Senado (L)—under identical conditions—and in the Handicap Whipper In. This time, it carried him past a promising colt in The Outsider (Roman Joy) and the champion Colifato Novo (Lenovo), who remains a shadow of the star he was in 2025.

With Kevin Banegas aboard, El Gazpacho settled near the rear early as Colifato Novo—hugging the rail—and The Outsider set the pace through an opening :23.72. Hitting the diagonal, the eventual winner moved into third, with the steady tempo (:46.94 for 800 meters) boosting his chances.

Into the stretch, with a tightly grouped field, the strongest finish belonged to El Gazpacho. At the 150-meter pole, he swept past Colifato Novo and opened up, ultimately putting two lengths on The Outsider, who in turn held second by a neck over the fading leader. Don Latido (John F Kennedy) checked in fourth, just a half-length behind, with the final time clocked in 1:24.00.

Bred by Haras La Pasión, El Gazpacho is out of Gazpacha (Not For Sale), a full sister to G2 winner Galán de Cine(Successful Appeal) and producer of graded-placed Garbiñe (Lucullan) and listed-placed Constitucional (Gouverneur Morris). He is trained by Nicolás Martín Ferro, who later teamed with Banegas to complete an impressive stakes double when Dream Serena (Forge) captured the Melgarejo (L).
