The winner of the Gran Premio Criadores (G1) returns after more than five months on the sidelines, now under the care of Carlos Cardón, and will face demanding rivals such as Verena, Gota Clara Sos, Adi Shakti, and Class Life

More than five months have passed since Herd Immunity's crowning moment in the Gran Premio Criadores (G1) on May 1 at Palermo. Physical issues kept her away from the track ever since, but this Sunday she returns to action, adding a special layer of intrigue to the Clásico Carlos P. Rodríguez (G2—1600 meters, turf), the feature event of the 12-race card at Hipódromo de San Isidro.

The daughter of Forge returns with several key updates. Most notably, she will now be presented by Carlos Cardón, adding another name to a unique sequence of trainers that previously included Ángel Pérez, Ángel Piana, Bruno Pasqualini, and Leonardo Tabares. Furthermore, she moves down from the 2000 meters of her finest triumph to the mile while switching from dirt to turf—a surface over which she previously scored at Palermo when capturing the Hándicap Juan Carlos Noriega.

Her comeback will be anything but easy, as the opposition brings class, current form, and varied tactical approaches. Among the most dangerous rivals is Gota Clara Sos (Made You Look), a 3-year-old representative who, after winning the Clásico Eliseo Ramírez (G2), rediscovered her sharpest form in the Empiric, drawing off by six lengths over 1400 meters. She will now aim to settle an unsettled score with the mile distance, which has proven elusive thus far.

Verenna (Cosmic Trigger) stands as another major contender. Breaking from the outermost post, she will seek to build on her excellent form following back-to-back victories in the Handicap Petit Ecurie and the Clásico Sibila (G2). Her natural early speed figures to make her a prime protagonist from the break—a tactical detail that could prove decisive to the race dynamic.

Meanwhile, Adi Shakti (Lucullan) will look to turn the tables on Verenna, who bested her by a length in the Sibila. Yet the mare carries another incentive: exactly one year ago, she finished second to Fiesta Porteña (Fortify) in this very same contest. That provides double motivation to chase a victory she has come close to securing, backed by consistent form.

Strong confidence also surrounds Class Life (Fortify), coming off a win in the Handicap Miss Linda at Palermo for trainer Guillermo Frenkel Santillán, whose stable is currently enjoying an exceptionally productive streak.

The field gains depth with Lancara (Manipulator) and Orphila (Daniel Boone), both of whom featured in the finish of the Sibila, where the former finished fourth behind the latter. Both possess solid credentials to factor in the final outcome.

Kalady (Il Campione) and Parati (Mshawish) enter following a matchup in allowance company, finishing in that order separated by weight—a piece of form suggesting they should not be overlooked as potential surprises. Pawnee Drive (Lucullan), for her part, is fresh off a 3 1/2-length victory over Camionette (Fortify), while the 3-year-old filly Deep Feeling (Seahenge) comes in off a highly convincing second career win over 1400 meters.

Completing the lineup is Splash Park (Safety Check), who failed to produce when tested over 2000 meters and now cuts back to a distance where she previously showed a far more persuasive account of herself.

Featuring a returning G1 winner, multiple in-form distance specialists, and emerging 3-year-olds taking on older rivals, the Carlos P. Rodríguez offers a thoroughly captivating matchup.

Herd Immunity draws the main spotlight, but the sharp form of her opponents demands shared respect. Sunday's premier contest at San Isidro has all the ingredients to deliver a top-tier spectacle.
