LA PLATA.- When jockey Franco Menéndez had to pull High Rimout (58 1/2 kg) out from the rail with 200 meters remaining, her chances looked slim in the Handicap Haras Santa Inés (1,000 m, heavy dirt), the first of two stakes-level sprints contested Thursday at El Bosque.

But in a spectacular recovery, the daughter of Remote and Highfever (Orpen) regrouped, launched a late surge, and secured a well-deserved victory in the final strides—her second consecutive win at the intermediate sprint level in southern Argentina.

Split-second decisions are a constant for jockeys. And while things often don’t go as planned, this time the finish was exactly what was hoped for, with the CCMP-based filly from Azul edging Maylena (Qué Vida Buena, 55 1/2) by half a length.

Topweight and favorite Lissette Island (Lizard Island, 59 1/2) finished third, 1 1/2 lengths back, having battled for the lead from the start alongside Gurisa Mask (Mask, 55), a duel that ultimately took a toll on both. The final time was 1:01.05.

Bred by Haras Firmamento and trained by Jorge H. PridaHigh Rimout is steadily establishing herself in sprint races for fillies in La Plata and will likely be aimed at the stakes victory her campaign already merits.
